RAM showing wrong Size [SOLVED]
January 21st, 2020
I’m facing a strange problem. Here are the screenshots below:
Motherboard is INTEL DG35EC (classic series).
1) When I enter the BIOS I see incorrect size of 2GB RAM.
2) When I set “DVMT memory” to “Maximum DVMT”, then Windows loads but not upto Desktop.
3) When I set “DVMT memory” to “128 MB”, Windows loads sucessfully (but in BIOS I still see the wrong size of RAM).
4) CPU-Z (and all the Windows Utilites) shows correct memory size.
What might be the cause of the problem.
I believe what you are looking at in the BIOS is your shared video memory size for your intergrated graphics card?
I believe what you are looking at in the BIOS is your shared video memory size for your intergrated graphics card?
The First Screen Shot, the amount of Total installed RAM. (I bet no one on earth would have this much, not even on Super Computer )
Second and Third Screen Shots are in support for the First Screen Shot.
The first screen shot says that my computer has 17 Billion Tera Bytes of DDR-II. ( <- even this smiley is not enough for this kind of LOL)
Try to reset your BIOS, remove the battery and wait 30 seconds, than put the battery again and restart the PC….
I’ve did that earlier but it shows the same size, then I took out that RAM and fit that again but its still the still same.. (What a funny RAM )
Not really a big deal in the bios, since once you finished booting up, it isn’t a problem.
Why the hell are you messing with the integrated video memory.
if its showing up correctly once booted I wouldn’t worry mate!
Why the hell are you messing with the integrated video memory.
Because, by default, this system was configured in “Maximum DVMT”, and in this mode the computer hangs without any symptom or warnings and I see “Out of Sync” on monitor (Samsung 17″ CRT). Then I changed the “Maximum DVMT” to “128MB” size, and after that computer runs smoothly, but this setting effected the performance. So I need to switch back to “Maximum DVMT”.
Try a BIOS update. It might improve the memory compatibility.
Is updating BIOS safe, because I’ve never done that before, and also read some articles on Google that Updating BIOS is a risky thing to do.
Yes it is risky. So is driving a car but does that stop you from driving?
i like your style :p
what are your computer spec
what windows do you xp/vista/7 , 32/64/86 bits?
what size of ram you are trying to put in ddr2,ddr3?
what type of motherboard do you have?
what type of cpu you have?

Computer specifications are as follows:
Core2Duo – 2.4GHz, 2MB cache
DDR-II, 2GB, 800MHz
Motherboard – Intel DG35EC (using all the onboard features)
Windows-7 (x86)
Well, I just tested tested this RAM slot on other board and it is showing the same size on that too I think I should return that RAM for replacement.

That don’t always work.
I agree with dream, try and update your bios to the latest version.

are you sure that you bought the right ram thats is ddr2 not ddr3?

are you sure that you bought the right ram thats is ddr2 not ddr3?Lol DDR3 wont fit into a DDR2 slot. The cuts are different

Yes Dx, it is DDR2. DDR3 ram cant fit in DG35EC. That’s why I put the screenshot of CPU-Z.
RAM was just recently purchased and it performed well for about a week, but now it is showing its incorrect size on this board and on other also (Intel-DG43GT).
I think I should go for a replacement. (Short & sweet solution)
What’s your opinion..
is your systems performance impaired in any way by it showing the wrong size?
i think you should probably go for a replacement if its not gonna cost you anything!

System performance was as usual, but it became unstable and hangs with no reason.
Yesterday night, I contacted that computer shop, he tested that RAM and said that “there was problem with the RAM”. When he tested that RAM, he also saw that funny amount of size displayed. So, being cooperative, he said that he is going to replace that RAM for free and took that RAM.
good stuff!
Its quite common to get faulty RAM, I bought some faulty RAM once and it took 3 replacements to get a working one!
glad its solved now though.
RAM replaced now, Problem solved.
Thanks all of you for helping.
