help with encoding?

basically, I need help with encoding.
my friend has an i5 server with 16gb of ram. he can encode with certain filters to 80fps or around that.
if I try and do the same encode on my i7 2360QM, I get 28 fps.
I have 4 cores and 8 threads.
we’re both using the same encoding setup and filters.
source we’re using is a DVDR.
any idea what’s causing my slowness?

Your clock speed is lower and so is your mem speed & bandwidth. 8 threads does not make that much difference, especially on the x264 2nd pass but it can make a small difference on the 1st pass.
