Use handbrake, placebo setting, with two pass encoding at 300mb, ac3 or aac audio at 128kbps This will take A LONG time to encode, so you may want to tweak some advanced settings to save some time at the cost of a bit of quality

thanks very much Jack_Torrance and for the reply and guidance. there are many tools and procedures… this is confusing to find a better solution. will try handbrake and MeGUI to achieve the best results. i think there are a lot more for the same to try.

I don’t think you will get a 720p 2hr movie @300MB…It’s too small.
If you look at whats uploaded, you will see that most 720p movies are 700 – 1000MB.
Only lower res, standard definition stuff at around 480p or 576p (such as DVD rips) can handle going down to 300 – 400MB..
(If you are really desperate to lower the size and bit-rate, then you should lower the resolution too)
Handbrake is good and another goody is Xmedia Recode.
This is actually a pretty good tut for Handbrake….Just ignore those Audio settings though…Use the default .aac codec and you can reduce the bitrate to 96 – 128 kb/s to save space.

Of course, you could always try a one click wonder such as Freemake Video Converter or this one..

Looking at those videos I notice they use variable bit rate..
If you look at the bit rate in real time, you will see that the bit rate (and hence file size)
is very low when there is just still pictures or little movement on the screen and when there is movement, it speeds up so it can give a good quality.
If you use Handbrake with “Constant Quality” you will get variable bit rate and the same effect.
If you were making or encoding similar tutorials, the overall bit rate would be low.
But if you are encoding a movie (lots of movement!), the bit rate and file size will turn out higher..
