X264 encoding.

January 12th, 2014

Hey im trying to encode my hd dvds and blurays to a smaller file to back them up and using around a bitrate of 1500 to 2000. Im using x264 and aac audio. Ive got the sharpness nice but there seems to be motion artifacts any idea why ? Thanks.

Your bitrate is far too low for encoding BluRay. It might work for stationary stuff that doesn’t change but when there is motion, you get what you have already noticed.
That applies if your encoding at BluRay resolutions.

How fast is your internet connection?
For me, it would be faster to download a good encode than making one myself.

Im only on a 15gb mobile dongle altho I maybe getting cable once it comes out in my area around decemeber I have a contract phone that is 20 pounds a month but I always ring 0800 numbers and such making it around 45 so if I cut them out I have 25 a month to get a phone line installed ie virgin media or bt. The resolution is 720p and my goal file size is 2gb. I might try lowering the res to like 620p or sommit . Thanks for the replies.

Are you using a program like handbrake and do you have any extra info (like number of Reference Frames, B Frames, 2 Pass Encoding?, Motion Estimation, etc )
