Xbox Live Bridging

February 2nd, 2020

Ok guys i really need some help here. I’d like to think a know a fair bit about networks but this is really stumping me. I’ve trawled the ‘google’ looking for help but cant find a working solution.
I have a wireless BT voyager router . My laptop is connected wirelessly to it and now i want to be able to connect my xbox via an ethernet cable to my laptop and bridge the connection so i can access Xbox live. Im still getting a failed Ip address on the xbox even though i appear to have filled in manually the correct details.
Can anyone give me a clear answer on how to do this or what i might be doing wrong? Thanks

Answer #1
Can’t you just connect the cable from you router to your xbox360?
Answer #2
Select the wireless connection on you laptop and you wired lan connection, then rightclick and selct “make bridged connection’
now it should work, it did here.
I think my xbox ip adress is set to automatic
you could also try to “share” the internet connection.
Answer #3
Router is in another room so it will be my last resort to relocate the tv and xbox there.
I’d bridged the lan and wireless connections already and tried auto ip address on the xbox but it failed. I also tried entering IP DNS and gateway maulally but they also failed even though im sure they were the correct details cause i chacjed them in IPCONFIG.
I i bridge the connection and try to enable shared internet connection, the option is no longer available. And if i enable it before i make the bridge it wont let me and says ‘ you must select at least two lan or highspeed internet connections that are not being used by a shared network connection’.
Am i missing something?

If your under XP, you need to go to Local Networks/Advanced and check Allow other users to connect via my computers (or something like that), your xbox will then connect to live as soon as you connect it to your pc…
Also, disactivate your firewall.

I have this going at the moment. My laptop is connectd to our wireless network. and I have my 360 directly connected to my laptop via a ethernet cable. all I had to do to get Xbox live to work was make the bridged connection. Ip’s should go fine automatically.

it has worked with sharing now and connects automatically but it is failing when it tests my MTU?
