Xbox 360 and playing burnt games

September 22nd, 2013

Well I recently acquired a new modded 360 it was modded awhile ago. It reads DL burnt games, i tried it with games older than 2009 and works. But how can I tell what kind of softmod it has? I tried to play new games such as NFS The Run but it says I need an update which is not available. What do I need to do for new games? Is there a new softmod for new games?
I have a Xbox 360 that was made in 08/21/2007. I am total noob so please help me xD What softmod do I need so it can read new games made in 2011.
My dashboard version is 2.0.8955.0 Which dashboard version is latest that can be softmodded? And some steps for it?

Hiya Jeebus,
I’ve been thinking about doing a Tutorial on this, one that I can change and keep up-to-date as the information from the ‘scene’ changes on a weekly basis these days!
Before you do anything else…. STOP! Do not run any updates and Do Not connect to Xbox Live!
There has been a lot of things going on over the last year and a half, with new methods to prevent backups loading (called AP2.5) and this year they changed to a new disc layout called XGD3 (Xbox Game Disc 3), which meant that a pressed Xbox 360 game was larger than what could be burned onto a Dual Layer disc.
BTW: NFS The Run is an XGD3 game.
The only way to tell what version soft mod you are running is to connect up your Xbox to a PC and read the current firmware!
As your Xbox is on such an old Dashoard of 8955, it is very likely running an old iXtreme firmware mod – probably IX 1.61 or less.
The current recommended iXtreme firmware is iXtreme LT+ 2.0 (LT stands for Lite Touch).
The current ‘safe’ dashboard when running LT+2.0 is Dashboard 13599.
However, Dashboard 13599 and the earlier 13146 also update your Xbox in order to load the new type of Xbox game discs, called XGD3 (Xbox Game Disc 3). When you install either of the Dashboard updates, your drives firmware will be re-flashed to stock – so you won’t be able to load any backup discs.
So with all this going on – add the fact that the next Dashboard update, version 14696 (due for release on 6th December), will also bring around some changes which means that iXtreme LT+2.0 will be replaced shortly after with LT+3.0 ….
Sounds confusing I know, but this is a quick extract from the Tutorial I’m writing at the moment:
1) Identify what type of DVD drive is in your Xbox 360.
2) Download the latest version of iXtreme (currently LT+ 2.0 for all dirves other than Samsung. For Samsung use LT+2.1)
3) Hook your Xbox DVD drive up to your PC and read your current firmware.
4) Flash your Xbox 360 DVD Drive to Stock firmware (if it’s on anything else). Very important now that you flash your drive to Stock firmware (again if not Stock) before any Dashboard updates.
5) Upgrade your Xbox 360 to the latest ‘safe’ Dashboard (currently 13599)
6) Flash your Xbox 360 DVD drive to the latest version of iXtreme (currently LT+ 2.0 for all drives other than Samsung. For Samsung use LT+2.1)
IMPORTANT – Until further notice – Do not connect to Xbox Live as the Dashboard will be upgraded to Dashboard 13604 or higher, which will allow silent DAE updates, which will stop your AP2.5 and XDG3 backups booting and flag your console for a ban!
Sometime shortly after the next Dashboard update, the new iXtreme LT+3.0 will be released, and you will need to repeat steps 2 – 6, only in step 5 you will be upgrading to Dashboard 14696, but you will then be able to connect to Xbox Live.
In order to burn XGD3 ISO’s, you will need a Lite-On iHAS 124 (224, 324, 424, 524 or 624) revision B DVD re-writer, and modify it with LT iXteme Max firmware.
The new burner with LT iXtreme Max firmware will then allow you to burn the full XDG3 game ISO.
Hope this helps for now!

As 90 % of Xbox related questions in here I would recommend you read Jungleflasher manual.
Also there’s a new LT+ 3.0 coming out soon(Announced date 6 Dec), wait for this.

My dashboard version is 2.0.8955.0
I’m pretty sure you can JTAG that console on that firmware !!! That’s exactly what I’d do !!

You should write a tutorial and thanks I shall wait for that. So according to you any old burnt cds I have will not work? BTW since new games are larger than normal and I might not have such dvd drive. Is there a way to store game ISOs in the hard drive and just play from there??

What is JTAG and how would I do that?
