Wireless adapter problem

August 21st, 2013

Okey guys here is the deal.. an older couple asked me to fix their wlan problem, they are using skype to talk to their family abroad.. Im pretty good at it, but i never saw a problem like this, so if you could help me?
They got a D Link router, and he is working perfectly ( tested on my laptop )..
But when i turn their laptop on (toshiba satellite m40, windows xp professional sp2) i cannot connect to it, in fact, when i opet the default windows wifi window, it detects some networks, aproximatly 30% of what my notebook can detect. It detects some networks with a weak signal, but doesn’t find the one that is like 1 feet away.
Another thing is the Intel Proset wireless configuration utility… When i start it, everything is gray ( like if there is no wlan adapter ) and when i point the mouse on to the icon it saiz “no supported wifi adapters available in the system”..
– i downloaded latest drivers for wlan… DIDNT HELP
– i repaired the Intel Proset wireless config util. DIDNT HELP
– i disabled windows zero wireless utility in order to get the proset working DIDNT HELP
im pretty much stuck now…
ANY HELP WOULD BE APRICIATED TNX IN ADVANCE

Answer #1
What signal is being broadcasted by the router?
And what signal is the laptop wireless nic capable of receiving?
You might have the router to N only, and the laptop might be B/G only.
Answer #2
Run this tool,Might do the trick:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html
- i downloaded latest drivers for wlan... DIDNT HELP
Did you uninstall the previous driver before you installed it?
Also,You obtained it from toshiba’s website or a 3rd party?
- i disabled windows zero wireless utility in order to get the proset working DIDNT HELP
Set it back to automatic.
Edit: Good point SmAsHeDr,Didn’t thought of that one
Answer #3
@ SmAsHeDr didnt think about that one, because it was all working perfectly untill a couple weeks ago… will give it a look…
@ Roberto400 Will give the tool a try tomorow…. Yes i uninstaled it, and i got it from intel-s website IntelĀ® PRO/Wireless 2200BG… i will turn it back to automatic…
i will get the laptop tomorow, because if all fails i can reinstall the system.. talk to you tomorow…

You might wanna try this driver if all else fails:
http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/intel_wireless_105159_os2006207a.exe
But it seems SmAsHeDr is right on the money,That wireless card doesn’t support N and if the
router is set to broadcast only in N mode that’s the problem.
