Windows 7/windows xp boot selector
August 18th, 2013
I have Windows 7 x64 on laptop and I need to install windows xp
but I still want Win7 to be main OS so what I think of is it even possible
to prevent boot selector from popping-up every time I boot
but still be able to use it when I need (such thing as pressing *insert button here* to make it appear)?
Thank for all help.
No, I don’t think it’s possible to have it only when you want it. You can have Win 7 auto boot after a time limit or if you press return. You can select XP and boot it, but you can’t have the boot selector only work when you want it unless you disable it using EasyBCD.
Get EasyBCD, read the documentation on adding XP after Win 7 and see how you get on. Save the pages to your hard drive for reference.
Make sure that you get all the required drivers, chipset, display and especially any networking drivers which might not be included with XP. You won’t get on the net if you need to after install without them.
I have a multi..multi boot system of Win 7 x64/x86, multiple XP installs and Linux on my PC.
Pay attention to partitioning as it could mess up Win 7 if you get it wrong. There is a guide on the EasyBCD website which I suggest that you read and understand before starting!
