Wifi Not Working (SOLVED)

August 6th, 2016

I have a HP 6530b laptop, using Windows Vista Bussiness, 32-Bit. The problem is that whenever I connect to my Wi-Fi, it connects to the Wi-Fi but I can’t connect to the internet. When I diagnose this I get that I have “Limited or No Connectivity.” It doesn’t even identify my network. Can anyone please help me out with this??
Thanks In Advance!

Answer #24
Brand : MTNL (indian..)
Answer #25
Ok. Do you know how to access your router settings?
Could you find this information under wireless?
a. network mode
b. SSID or network name
c. wireless channel
d. SSID broadcast (enabled or disabled)
Answer #26
a. Did u mean authentication type?? it is “WPA2-PSK”
b. Mavilla 511
c. Channel ID : Channel06 2437MHz
d. enabled
But wat i’ll say is the problem is with only this laptop.. so indeed the router is fine but the problem is in the laptop..
Answer #27
my question is, are others devices (laptops, iphone, etc..) configured with static or automatic tcp/ip configuration
cuz this problem “Limited or No Connectivity” happens when you cannot pick an IP address from your DHCP server, or if its configured to obtain an ip from DHCP and that network doesnt have any DHCP server.
so the OS uses APIPA – Automatic Private IP Addressing
APIPA is a DHCP failover mechanism. With APIPA, DHCP clients can obtain IP addresses when DHCP servers are nonfunctional. from this range 169.254.0.1 – 169.254.255.254
If the router is configured to as DHCP Server then try to your laptop to release your ip with this command
ipconfig /release
and then to renew with this
ipconfig /renew
then see what is the configuration
ipconfig /all
if you have the correct ip address not from APIPA Range that does it mean that the wireless routers is good configured with dhcp server
the only thing is to check your security configuration in router : WEP ( Wireless Encryption protocol ) or Preshared Key or any macaddress filtering…
try to ping the wireless router does it succeed

^^^^^^^^When i try to use^^^
ipconfig/release
in cmd
Answer #29
are you sure that you typed in your wiress encryption key correctly?
Also make sure user name and password are set correctly in your router, ie the one to connect to your isp
Last of all try changing the channels as some work better with different wireless devices.
Answer #30
umm.. no i think the problem is with the laptop getting the ip.. Like said..
Answer #31
a. Did u mean authentication type?? it is "WPA2-PSK"
b. Mavilla 511
c. Channel ID : Channel06 2437MHz
d. enabled

Alright. Sounds all good. Have you tried to change the Wireless Channel and resetting the router to try? sometimes depending on the area the wireless signals wont pickup correctly for the internet signals.
Can i ask where you have your router and how far away form it you are when trying to connect to it? are you far away from it or right near it? is it out in the open and not hidden away or have anything over it?
Also i’d like to know the strength of the connection the laptop is getting to the router.
1. Click on the Windows orb/start
2. Click on Control Panel
3. Click on Network and Internet
4. Click on Network and Sharing Center 5. Click on ‘view status’ next to your Wireless Network Connection and tell me how many green bars are next to ‘Signal Quality’
Sorry for the delay.
Cheers.

The other devices work just fine. They didnt need to be configured.. all i had to do wid ’em was to find and connect to my network and then the net would work.
But this one has never been connected to the net with wifi. Plz help me!
Answer #35
Check your services list (start, run, type services.msc (enter)) And make sure that DHCP client is running, And DNS client. These are usually the culprits. Set them both to automatic and make sure they say “started”
