Which Windows 7 To Install?

July 25th, 2016

I’ve a HTPC which I use to watch 720p and 1080p movies from my NAS drive with these specs,
CPU: Intel Atom 230 1.6GHz (Single Core)
GPU: Nvidia ION intergared graphics RAM: 2GB DDR2

Which version of Windows 7 do you recommend me to install as I don’t want to have features or files that I don’t use as well as high CPU and memory usage while watching movies which may cause shutter or lag since the specs isn’t great

Answer #1
home premium sir. (32bit)

No fault of Windows, but I think you might be pressing your luck trying to play 1080p stuff with those specs..
Sounds like the HTPC was more suited to standard definition stuff?

If you’re insistent on using Windows 7, Windows Embedded Standard 7 is the way to go as it has a low footprint. But if it were up to me, I’d go with OpeEC (a lightweight, bare-bone XBMC-based Linux OS targeting HTPCs) instead.
