Well you have a 16/9 ratio , any thing above 720p should look good, if you are looking for better quality and have high internet speed also high bandwidth, you can download the uncompressed ones.
ok so 720 and up – thanks!
You could run 4K (also called UHD) movies on that.
Search for “4K” in Movies
Or check out You Tube.
1080p should look reasonable too, as long as it is in a decent file size
File size has nothing to do with the quality of a video. It is merely the result of a mathematical equation. Time, bitrate and resolution with bitrate and resolution being the two things to look for. Would a 6Gb 1080p 150 minute movie look as good as a 6Gb 1080p 90 minute movie? No.
720p videos will look good on that monitor. Well most movies that you can download are on mp4 and mkv format.
Got me a new computer screen and all of this 700mb stuff looks 8bit- grainy, haha..i never had a resolution like this before so please advise on what i should look out for (size, format, etc) from now on. Thanks!
2560 x 1440 is 2K, if your monitor is 1080 (or 1K) you will not see 2K, 1K
stick to 1080 for a 1080 monitor

Yes, well picked!
1080p is the go..
You can actually play 4K vids but they will be reduced in definition by the video card anyhow. So not much point.

Well, how do i know if my monitor is 1080? Does 2560 x 1440 make it 1080 automatically? Btw, i have a Dell U2515H.
Dell U2515H Native Resolution: 2560 x 1440 at 60 Hz
Your Monitor is capable of more than 1080P..

As the lion stated, you have a 2K monitor. To maximize the visuals, download
your monitor resolution 2560 x 1440 movie, or 2K video. If you can find any?
Good choice of monitor
thank you all!

Down scaling from 4k will be higher quality than up scaling 1080p
Difference will probably be negligible unless you sit v close to the screen though.
