Western Digital Copying Slow please help!

February 9th, 2020

Hey everyone, i just got my Western Digital 1TB hard drive and i connected it to the back of my computer. I noticed its going slow. Idk if this is normal but its copying at 15 mb/s is that slow, fast, or normal? Please help what should i do? Im trying to copy about 100 gigs atm lol
Answer #1
depends on drivers/usb particularly…i have the exact hdd and mine is pretty fast…i copy 700mb files to it in about 30 seconds or less
Answer #2
It’s definitely a bit slower than some drives, the USB 2 standard is rated for 440mbps, or roughly 40MB/s – do you have many other USB things plugged in at the same time?
Answer #3
USB is slow…should’ve gotten an eSATA or internal drive if speed was the concern.

True esata will be much faster but USB 2.0 has a raw data rate at 480Mbps thats not THAT slow

my printer is USB and i have other things connected shoud i unplug them? any other tips? im kind of disappointed
Answer #6
Take the drive out of the enclosure and connect it to your motherboard.
Answer #7
It’s a bit slow but not terribly so. An external drive is always going to be slower than internal one.
It should easily do your 100Gb copy overnight, and I doubt you’ll be wanting to copy that kind of volume on a regular basis.
Other things on USB shouldn’t make a lot difference unless the other devices are highly active, but it wouldn’t hurt to unplug them and see if the sped improves.

External USB2 HDDs are much slower then internals,ESATA is the fastest
external interface with USB3 2nd, As far as whether it’s normal I’d say not (Provided that the source is an internal HDD)
My external HDD writes at 22-23 MB/s and in various reviews
of external HDDs I’ve seen it’s always between 22-30MB so 15
is a bit low,Try another USB port.
Take the drive out of the enclosure and connect it to your motherboard.
If he wanted to do that he wouldn’t have bought an external to begin with! Not to mention doing so will void the warranty.
