Weird Problem

July 31st, 2016

Hey everyone.I justgot my new build, and everything is going fine. For some reason though, when I turned my pc on a little while ago, my ps2 keyboard just stopped working. And I can’t figure out why.
When I cleared the CMOS and go into the the BIOS the ps2 keybard works for a few seconds then doesn’t.
Anyone know what the problem is?

maybe the problem is with the keyboard?

maybe the problem is with the keyboard?
I’m not sure, it was working perfectly, then I just switched my computer on, and it didnt work, but as I said when I reset the CMOS it works for a little while.
Could there be a BIOS setting thats configured badly?

unlikely…
check to make sure the plug is in the pc ps2 port ok ..
if u on WinXP then do this :
FIRST … create a restore point , just in case want to go back…
{ do it when kb is going ok , and again when not }
click on start–>ctrlpanel–>system–>hardware–>devicemanager–>keyboard u shud see kb is ok otherwise will be a big yellow patch ..
do this again when kb not working …
if yellow patch then click uninstall …exit XP , switch off.. boot up , may be beeps to warn no kb don’t worry coz XP shud detect ” new hardware ” , follow prompts and then check the device manager again { as above }…
if still probs then try another ps2 kb …
hope this helps

OK, partially weird answer.
Make sure the ps/2 keyboard plug is in the hole closest to the mobo (I have a friend who constantly fubars where stuff should plug in) if it is, unplug it and look at the pins and make sure none are bent and plug it back in. I am going to say it may be the KB do you have a spare or maybe a USB KB?

it happened to me once and i just bought an adapter PS2 to USB and it works but everytime i boot my computer, i had to do the plug/unplug thing to make it working, i’d say it’s weird but it’s working anyway.

Thanks for all the replies. It was a problem with the keyboard after all. It turns out that the wire coming from the keyboard is messed up. It is slack inside so it’s not connecting to whatever it needs to inside the actual keyboard. Don’t ask me how I figured that out lol, just luck really.
As I said, thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it.
