Video Editor for encoders

Hello friends,
I want a video editor that will help to put text and trim parts of my movies. Nothing fancy. I have seen Encoders put their watermark/logo/text in their encoded movies. In common, which video editor they use? I want to put text in my encoded movies so that others can’t misuse my encodes.
Cyberlink, Pinnacle – this kind of things are too much. Can you suggest some for my simple want?

How to encode losslessly using Avidemux. And does it support all formats? Especially MKV and MP4?
