Tool to monitor home wifi network traffic

June 2nd, 2023

I have a wifi router with three or five user.
I need to check who is using more bandwidth.
Is there any tool to check this?

Answer #1
only if the router supports it … think about it :
If there would be such a “tool” , then your PC , or wherever this tool is installed on, needs to capture all wifi traffic from all clients.
No, only way you can monitor the throughout is via the access point / router If you are looking for paid tools / router, then there are quite a few out there, but pricey I think. (the ones you get on airports and hotels etc.)
Answer #2
Yes, there are ways, but you need the right router. Check if your router is eligible for open-wrt/dd-wrt or state the model here.
Answer #3
Post your router model here so we can help. You need to replace router stock fimrware with more advanced one such as ddwrt or tomato…
Answer #4
What you need is a router able to handle QoS (Quality of Service), check out your router’s documentation.
Answer #5
Google/look for: who is on my WiFi… a simple app that tell you from your PC, who is doing what..
Answer #6
The people at Spiceworks developed such an app:

Answer #7
If the router supports it, then you can do it there
If not, you could always install networx on all the connected computers
Of course, anyone can just stop the service running on that device
