Stripped XP question

Hi, I have an old pc (p4 with 512mb ram) and its running a bit sluggish on xp pro. Youtube is a bit jumpy aswell as video playback and flash games almost cause it to completely stop. Just wondering if its worth my while to install a stripped version of xp, will that help to boost performance? Thanks
