Answer #2
Do you mean in BIOS or in Windows?
Answer #3
both. i think the drive might be bad. i restarted my computer then the new driver install window showed up but its not showing the hd so restarted again to look in bios and not there.
Answer #4
Try booting off a pre installed CD and see if the drive can be read. You might have a DOA.
Answer #5
when you buy a new hard drive they are not pre formatted
i don’t know about the ssd drive but try to format the drive by using windows boot disk to format it
Answer #6
Quick format. don’t do a full format on the drive.

he can’t do a quick format because it’s not showing up in window because it’s not formatted he has to do a full format and there is no option on the boot disk for quick format

If you can’t see it in BIOS, then it’s dead.

That’s not true. it’s pretty common that a ssd will not be in the list of hdd’s.

Mine is more then a year older then his, and mine shows up just fine in the BIOS. Should expect the same from a newer SSD, if it doesn’t show up just return since it’s still new, or try it in another computer.

Irrelevant.
If his SSD is dead it will be found out soon.l
It’s stupid to tell him to send it off for RMA without knowing if it is DOA or faulty.
Also just because your SSD was not problematic doesn’t mean a single thing.
It’s fairly common for the SSD to not show in boot devices when you first install.
There are a number of issues with the Vertex 3 firmware related. not sure if this is one of them but it’s worth checking out.
infact i recall mine did not show up in boot devices when i got it.

Means it is dead to that computer maby others will see it!
As stated by others again format the ssd & everythin will be visible in the os
Answer #15
Forgot to mention you should unplug all other HDD’s and boot with only the SSD.
EDIT: in addition to that there should also be sata option in the bios.
Change from IDE to AHCI,
Answer #16
I have a 60 gb solid ocz drive as my main OS. and ya i have all my others hds unplugged.
so my guess it is bad. or i remember reading something about their sandforce drivers causing problems or something.
Answer #17
There are sandforce firmware issues, though i’m don’t know the details of the issues.
There was a new firmware not so long ago that fixed many of them (or is supposed too)
If you have done all the things mentioned too no avail then it would be fair to assume that it is faulty and initiate a RMA process with your retailer.

Change from IDE to AHCI,

ya only setting i saw for that was under my raid settings and that caused my computer not to boot up at all.
Answer #19
Then you can be pretty sure that something is wrong.
