GPU showing only 2GB
August 6th, 2016
I just upgraded my graphic to GeForce GT 630 4GB DDR3 Point of View edition, and installed it just now.
Just to make sure I checked in dxdiag to see the memory and it is showing only 2GB. What could be the problem?
I’m wondering, I have winXP 32bit, maybe that is cutting it in half?
I also installed GeForce GT 630 drivers, maybe point of view requires different drivers, maybe that could be an issue aswell?
Thank you.
Check with GPUZ instead, dxdiag might display it wrong

But, read this

It’s old, but I guess XP32 won’t really work properly with a 4GB videocard because of all the memory allocation limits. I have not tried it myself, have been usng 64bit for ages.
Would be a good time to change to Win7 x64
Your card shouldn’t have xp support.
I had a similar problem years ago, and it is being on XP.. You need to upgrade your OS, but pretty much any game that will run on the operating wont have a problem.. But then again, a lot of new games wont run on XP now and need DX 11 (with the exception of using that hack to make games think your running it).. (My prob was having 5gbs memory and it only showing 1gb so exact same prob I think, went to win 7 and prob fixed itself)…
Upgrading for another OS for 2 more gbs of VRAM would not yield much of a performance increase since it is unlikely that the 2gbs would ever be used.
You shouldn’t upgrade the OS JUST for the marginal increase.
Okay cool, I’ll upgrade maybe later if needed, good to know it’s there.
Tho, I wanted to ask you guys if upgrading to win7 would increase my CPU & Ram performance slightly aswell?
I need it mostly for gaming/Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Thank you for your effort, I appreciate it.
Not particually.. But I found Windows 7 ran just as well as XP did, it may seem to run quicker if that is one of the newer counter strikes, because you will use direct x11. As well as that using a x86 version only allows the use of 4GB’s of ram whilst using the x64 version grants the usage of more then you would use..

Windows 7 is more optimized especially for intensive programs and newer components. Remember that playing Counter-Strike won’t give you a terrible boost.
