Sonic CD PC help?

I also have Sonic CD for PC and it seems to run just fine, until I select an option from the title screen (like either New Game or Continue), then several seconds later, the game crashes. I have to run it in 256 colors and in Compatibility mode. Which should I run it in (Windows 95, 98, etc.)?
EDIT: I got it to run (Windows NT Compatibility mode)

There is a new rerelease of Sonic Cd in widescreen mode coming out in a few days also available for PC!So if u have vista or 7 you have to wait just a few days!
