Something odd with my notebook happened

August 7th, 2016

Hello boys/girls,
I’ll cut to the chase!
A few minutes ago I have instaled and started playing Darksiders on my Acer Aspire 5940G laptop, plugged in, 100% battery
All went well for like 20 minutes.
All of the sudden my laptop went into hibernation mode. I restarted it and I quickly realised that my battery was to 4% and “plugged, not charging”.
Scared I quickly turned off the laptop and removed the battery. I thought something bad has happened. After that I put the battery back on and turned on the computer. It was still showing 4% plugged in, not charging (win7 ultimate). I have waited like 5 minutes and then it started recharging the battery.
Why did all that happened? It is something wrong with the battery or the laptop? Or what?

Well may be your battery wasnt 100% before, but the battery level detector got faulty
It went into hibernation cos of less battery charge If you have warranty then get it replaced in case you get the same problem again That “plugged in, not charging” problem is quite frequent with laptops
Also this may be a problem due to over heating, check your Temperatures while playing it again

In my opinion you should not have laptop on charger when playing games or working.Bicouse you can damage battery
Answer #7
also, the ac adapter gets really hot when it’s connected to the laptop. is this normal?
I am 100% sure that the battery was full when the computer shut down.

It sounds to me as though the battery has died and needs replacing.
I don’t think that will have anything to do with whatever programs you were running, (you were bound to be running something or other when the fault occurred).
The overheating adaptor is pretty much a confirmation of that, – it’s basically pumping all the power it can produce into a short circuit.
There’s a possibility also that the power adaptor itself is the problem rather than the battery.
If you know somebody who has a similar computer you can verify where the problem lies by temporarily swapping the batteries/adaptor over.
Otherwise you’ll have to get it sorted out by a computer shop or something.

well, the AC adapter has been like that since I have bought the laptop. I don’t know if it’s really something with it.
The battery still holds 2 hours on power saver which is normal for my laptop.
I bought it new 10 months ago.

If it’s only 10 months old it should still be under warranty, so your best bet is to get it checked in the place you bought it.

I bought it over the internet and if I send it to them, they will keep it for at least 1 week (including shipping). I need it everyday

I’m not quite sure of the details here.
1. Are you saying that the AC adaptor gets very hot, but then it’s always been like that?, or did the adaptor only get very hot after the problem started.
2. Since the problem started, has it operated normally at all at any timel?, or are you permanently stuck with this ‘4%, not charging’ message.
Whatever the problem is, it’s pretty much certain to be hardware related, so you may need something replaced. If you don’t want to send it back to the supplier, I guess your only other option is to go to a PC store near you, but you’ll have to pay for any parts and a service charge.

the ac adapter gets really hot
there may be a heat related shutdown function in the charger
I have a lappy that gives me the “plugged, not charging” error and I just un-plug and re-plug in the charger until the charging light comes back on

yes. the ac adapter has always been like that.
the problem with the not charging message happened only once and after a few minutes it started working normally charging the battery without me doing anything.
