[SOLVED]Split a partition?

Is there any was i can split a 500 gb partition into 450GB and 50 GB partitions?

Try Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director, but make sure you know what you are doing.

Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director …. i had some weird stuff with it
i use a cd boot disk -> Paragon HD manager
splitting windows while running windows, windows does not always likes that

Yep! I agree with you mate but it just depends what partition he wants to split. If it’s a data (not an OS) partition he should be OK doing it through Windows.
Like yourself I always use a boot CD and do my partitioning in DOS with Hirens Boot CD.

You can’t split a partition…You resize the main partition to 450 GB then you create a new partition with the 50 GB unallocated space…
Don’t go near Partition Magic…It can mess up your hard drive…
Paragon…I seen people here with problems using that…
Acronis Disk Director…Simply the best…

If you’re running Vista you can shrink partitions from the internal manager thingy, which is just as competent as a program

Use partition magic just in case something goes wrong.., i really dont like the Internal application provided by windows….

Partition Magic is lethal…It hasn’t been updated for the last 5 or 6 years…It always reports that your hard drive have and error..And it suggest to fix it…You let it fix it and boom…

I can’t agree with you about Partition Magic mate. I’ve been using it for years without any problems whatsoever. And when says ‘split’ a partition I think we all know what he means by that (i.e. create two or more partitions from one large one).

Here is just one of the many example:

I used PowerQuest Partition Magic 8 and all was going well and the new Partition was created but near the end it errored and I have lost my main Data storage drive and all that was on it. Is there any way I can recover the data on this drive or is all lost and needs to be FDisked?

Thanks for the help,
since the 500GB partition is my only HDD, im going to use hirens Boot CD to boot up and do it from there.
