[Solved] 3GS wont go into dfu

October 23rd, 2013

hi guys, i have an iphone 3gs on 5.0 i had it with a tethered jb ever since ios5 came out, but i restored it to take it to the apple shop and ask about some issues, now i have come back and i am trying to jailbreak it using redsnow again, but it won’t go into dfu mode,
i have put many iphones and ipods into dfu and jailbroken/restored before.
all mine is doing it:
it is off (slide to turn off)
hold sleep for 3 seconds (apple logo appears)
hold home button as well for 10 seconds (screen turns black)
release sleep button, continue with home ofr 15 seconds (nothing new happens and redsnow says no iphone has been detected in dfu, try again. )
i tried again and my phone just turned back on

Answer #1
Tried iReb?
Anyway…
1. Press and hold POWER button for 3 seconds
2. Keep holding POWER button also hold HOME button for next 10 seconds
3. Release POWER button and keep holding HOME button for next 15+ seconds
Answer #2

Because you are not doing something right…
Answer #4
i am follwing the exact timings from rednsnow and it reboots whilst im holding the home button in the last step,
and with ireb, it turns off and then when i let go of the sleep button it stays on the blank off scree, but not dfu
Answer #5
nevermind, it just decided to work after the 100th time trying.
thanks

Had the exact same problem myself mate, tried so many times and the damn thing just rebooted at the final step.
The only way I could bypass it was to follow the steps in redsn0w, but before you get to the screen where it tells you to hold the buttons for so long to put the device into DFU mode, was to put it in DFU mode myself instead of opening that window and letting redsn0w walk me through it, if you do it right which i’m sure you will as you’ve done it before you say, redsn0w will detect the device is in DFU and will just carry on with the exploit without having to go through those steps.
Worked for me, give it a try
