Should I upgrade to 8GB DDR3 RAM?

January 26th, 2020

Yet another topic (sorry )
I am currently using 4GB DDR3 1333mhz RAM, and my PC specs are in my signature. Should I upgrade to 8GB? 2 x 4GB sticks?
It runs pretty well, but would it be beneficial for the future?

Answer #1
If you are a serious Multi-tasker and Gamer then yes. Or else 4GB is fine for the next 2 years or so i guess.
Answer #2
if its beneficial in the future, then upgrade in the future.
Answer #3
Do you do graphic design or vdo editing that required rendering?
If not, dont upgrade, it is no use
Answer #4
The i7 supports triple channel RAM, so installing RAM in multiples of 3 is in your best interest.

Yes, I create videos, but from my experience with i7, they render quite fast. But how much faster would it be with 8gb?

My motherboard only has 2 x ddr3 slots, which is a pain in the ass.
Answer #6
Why crazy mobo do you have, that only has two slots?
Answer #7
Gigabyte S-Series H55M-S2H.
I was so annoyed when the guys installed that.
Answer #8
Wow, that’s lame. Triple channel only provides like 5% difference, so it’s not really that big of a deal.
Answer #9
Yeah it’s terrible, I could always just get like two 6gb sticks, if they even make them. Dual Channel 12gb ddr3
Answer #10
I think you should, it will help to have extra memory with that oversized signature you have.
Answer #11
yea..for high config. games

It’s beautiful.

Yeah exactly, because games are getting harder and harder to render. And what I hate, is that they are bringing physx games in faster, leaving ATI users behind
Answer #13
Yeah Go Ahead !!!!!!
Answer #14
Upgrade it in future, what are you going to do with 8GB now?
Answer #15
Yeah I guess. I don’t think I wanna pay the amount that it is at the moment. It’ll most likely lower when the years go by.
Answer #16
I upgraded from 4 to 8.
I also noticed no difference. Lol. Might be worth it in the future but for what i use it for its not really needed (gaming, internet, and movies)
Answer #17
if your work need 8g go ahead else its waste of money when you have them and you don’t use them
Answer #18
I’d wait a year

Says it all, 4G is more than enough.
Answer #20
if you dont feel you need it – save your cash and buy something later, you might need something and think that extra $$$ you spent on this wasn’t as great an idea
Answer #21
There are better things you can spend on with the money like a few burgers at Burger King
Answer #22
If you have already 4gb ram its ok for gaming and serious video makes!!!
But if you have the money and you want to spend them to something upgrade if you was collecting this money hard and for a lot of time is not needed….i quess…
Answer #23
i got 12gb of ram on my board, still ok. not that fast

Facepalm if you want to see an epic improvement, slap in a h70 and overclock to 4ghz.
Image
+ Overclock to 4ghz will give you a big improvement, either that or an ssd.
Answer #25
8 GB ram !!!
you have now 4 GB , right ?
remove a stick from the 2 and work that way for a day or two , see if there’s a difference or not .
(( I’m guessing that you won’t find a huge difference ))

That’s why you shouldn’t upgrade to 8 and stick with your 4 GB rams .

Implying the images your GPU renders get stored in RAM.
If you do think so, go ahead, buy 12GB of RAM. It’ll make your PC faster I swear.

I am pretty sure you don`t because unless you custom built or bought a pre over clocked bundle you would not have one.

Guess you were right, is that an oem build? Or did you get someone to make it for you because it is very rare to buy anything from dell etc with after market cooling? And about overclocking, have a look on over clockers uk forum, or your MB might have some software that you can use so that you do not have to go into bios.
Answer #31
I built it myself, Just bought the parts off ebuyer and put them together tbh. I thought thats what i installed as at the time I was pretty flush with cash and not a student like I am now lol.
8GB ram, Phenom II 965 processor, Palit 1.8GB GTX 260, western digital 600GB velociraptor 10K RPM drive….. Runs nicely as I mainly use it for STEAM (I buy all ma games to play on their)
So yeah, suppose custom built, just dont really know how to overclock and havent bothered. lol. Runs everything perfectly for me at the moment so need to overclock just yet. But the 8GB of RAM for me makes no difference to 4GB (gaming etc it has no difference on) and the only time i multi task is having firefox open with winamp and steam then loading a game. lol

Not related to this thread but just fyi that’s a H50 not the H70.
Answer #33
My bad, like I say, i wasnt even sure what I was running fan wise!
Answer #34
Not worth the effort. Especially given the price of 4gb sticks. If you must spend cash..look at your sound system and monitor or mouse/keyboard? Maybe even add a SSD boot drive?

I’m thinking of a 27″ full HD monitor 1920 x 1080. I think that would be a more wise spend
Answer #38
If You are the gamer YES.
