Shadow of Mordor wont start. // Fixed!
August 7th, 2016
Got the Codex Crack + all files from C:/Documents/WBGames/Shadow of Mordor from a machine where the game works & it ended up working, played for about 4hours now, no issues so far.
Hello & thanks in advance for any help.
I have by now downloaded Shadow of mordor 3 times.
The BB Repack, the Corepack and the 37GB game Rip and none of them works on my Desktop PC, however I did install the BB-Repack on my laptop where it works (though the hardware is to weak to play the game anything above low settings & 720p <.<)
It is always the same error, if I start from the desktop shortcut I get:
“Failed to initialize Client – unable to load game ressources.”
If I start it up from the game dir. (which im supposed to do anyway, according to the how-to-guides & replys) I get this immedatly game doenst even try to startup or anything:
“shadow of mordor has stopped working”

Desktop PC Specs: Win 7 64bit, Intel i7 2600 @4.2GHZ, 8GB of Ram, GTX 660 Ti, 1x SSD (240GB) 1x HDD 1TB (Partitioned to into 3 Drives)
Laptop Specs: Win 8.1, i7-4510U @ 3.1GHZ, 8 GB of Ram, GTX 850M, 1TB HDD with an Hybrid SSD (no Partitions)
Again: Game works on Laptop, doenst work on Desktop PC.
I also am not new to the scene and did allready install my fair amount of games from various sources.
Both Rigs are up to date with all drivers & Updates and yes, I own a legal windows copy on both of them.
Other games like BF4, newest Tomb Raider, AC4 Blackflag etc. work on my desktop PC w/o any problems.

Join the list of people that have the same problem with legit copies! Some seem to have fixed the issue with updated video drivers.
With the video driver, it may be that you have the latest beta version from Nvidia. Maybe try going down to a previous version – I have had a problem a few times where the “latest and greatest” driver just didn’t work with some games.
EDIT:
There was one post that seems to have some merit and a fix:
I have looked a little further into your system - sometimes it can be a needle in a haystack, but have at least found one problem:
DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 32bit Unicode
This has to be 64-bit as indicated in the requirements.
Also, under your graphic card settings this appears:
Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz)
I believe that the problem lies here, that there is part of your system that runs 32-bit. I would also say, that there is no reports on that it is the game it self that prevents people from launching the game. It is issues like this and with any other game, I strongly recommend to take it lightly what various forums states, since many times - as it is on Steam - directly works against the solution of the problem.
You therefore need to go through your system and change all of it to 64 bit.
I hope this will help you.

Classic case of a little info = major stupidity.
DxDiag being 32 bit doesn’t mean anything – the diagnostic program is 32 bit; You can always run the x64 DxDiag by clicking the button that says “run 64 bit Dxdiag” !
It really doesn’t mean anything at all.
Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz)
This guy (not the OP here, the other guy) is a MORON – 32 bit graphics is NOT the same as 32 bit exe file or 64 bit computing!

There’s nothing worse than an ill-informed moron who thinks he’s knowledgeable.

Is there a separate x64 folder – have you tried the exe file in there, if it exists?
Re:
try opening the game using the .exe in x64 folder rather than the desktop shortcut
LOL ; I guess I unfortunately reposted a bad suggestion; however, with the hundreds of people complaining, it definitely appears to be related to the video card driver.
The guys that have any success have experimented with different versions and some have got lucky it seems.
Until the company figures it out, consider any time you spend on this endevour to be wasted at best – oh sorry, a learning experience
Hey!
Don’t know if this will solve your case, but take a look here:

Failed to initialize client – unable to load game resources ??
Anyone know the fix to the problem?
( worked it out just had to run as admin from folder.)
Please remember to double check that all your links have been coded. #3.10 links must be coded - including, but not limited to, e-mail addresses, passwords and internal links.

Sorry, mate – it wasn’t YOU.
I just feel that these people with a tiny bit of info are dangerous.. like the ones that say to “delete svchost from system32!! Now, it’s dangerous viruses material”
It’s just that DxDiag has almost nothing to do with DirectX itself – it just tells you what version you have and what video/sound devices and drivers are there.
And 32 bit display just sounds like 32 bit programs (as you know, you’re not an idiot (or a numpty ).
thanks everybody, I just figured out a solution a minute ago. It has nothing to do with anything anybody suggested though
Basically I took the files from C:/MyDocuments/WBGames off my laptop(where the game works) and put them on my desktop, same folder, now the game boots up at least
Will continue to check, and if necessary update this topic.
also as a sitenote: fraps + shadow of morder = crash :3
