Second PC Setup Advice

February 3rd, 2020

Hi Peeps,
So after buying my new gaming machine I still have my old computer which I thought of trading in or selling but after looking through the internet
I thought about re-building it and turning it into a server to use for games such as Minecraft and if possible BF3 & Dayz. Whilst having it as a gaming server would it be possible to use it as a web server just for a personal portfolio and personal business site. Any comments are appreciated.

I already have my 1st computer setup for TV streaming etc. so wouldn’t need another system the same, Thanks for suggesting it though.

Generally speaking, Using a personal computer as a server is a bad idea!
You seem to forget that a server is more than just a computer running server apps.
It also serves content to others via the Internet, And for doing that, It needs enough
upload bandwidth (Which most ppl don’t have) For home users, The upload speed is always significantly slower than the download one (This is also called an asymmetric connection) Hosting companies on the other hand use symmetric ones (same speed both ways) of 100MBPS and 1GBPS. Set that aside, You would also have to leave it on 24/7 (Which will probably increase your electricity bill) and you’ll also be putting your connection at a much greater risk for a DDOS attack! So it’s not worth it. You’d be better off buying a VPS or a Dedicated Server for this purpose.
I suggest you wipe it clean (using DBAN) and just sell it as a whole (Complete I mean, Not each part in separate)

Thanks Roberto, I was thinking of turning it into another build and selling anyways, I currently have an Intel based system and wouldn’t mind building an AMD one.
