My mum has emptied her recycle bin which turns out to have contained a really important folder. What is the absolute best option for attempting to revover the data?
Cheers

getdataback for ntfs has worked for me a few time
run it from a boot disk as you don’t want to overwrite the files you want to recover by booting into your current OS
Hiren’s BootCD has MiniXP and it should run from there
Hiren’s BootCD also has may data recovery tools under it’s DOS tools

Word of caution: Do not write any data to the drive where your original data was present until you have recovered your data.
As for software, try FileScavenger

Thanks for the replies everyone, I really appreciate the help!
To cut a very long story short… after trying to recover the files using a number of methods (all through team viewer as she is hundreds of miles away) I discovered that between what was available on the hard drive and what was still in the hand-held device she uses to collect the data, we could make up the contents of the missing folder. Crisis…and I do mean CRISIS… averted!!
Thanks again. She is unbelievably happy

It is against the rules to make a reply to an old topic unless under special circumstances such as, but not limited to, the topic's discussion has died but there is new striking evidence to turn thoughts around or saying thank you for the author. A reply with information that is relevant and useful is allowed..
