questions about router and downloading..

why is it everytime I try to download, I always get DC after a few seconds.. but if I am just surfing.. my connection is stable..
I am on a shared router by the way..

too many people are probably using the router, try downloading with all the cables to the router disconnected except for yours and the one that goes to the modem
