Problem with my network
August 1st, 2013
I dont know how but this odd problem is occuring from like for the last 1.5weeks!!! Like last week I was trying to acces www. filestube . com but a page showed up, that was a page of opendns where it showed that filestube was blocked by my network administrator.! I informed this to my isp and they said that no they didnt do anything and i should just restart my internet connection and my computer to see if it works or not…
I did that but nothing worked… the blocked page gave me a local no. where it said that i can call that no. for assistance. I called the no and a guy picked and was like tell me the category and stuff and i will unblock it within tonight!
This occcured like 1week ago and now today i was browsing twitter and suddenly this occured again! I COULD NOT ACCESS TWITTER!! :O i called that guy again and he unblocked it.. the owner of my isp said to me today that he is probably some sorta guy who’s pranking around with me…
Can anyone help me?? and tell me how can I secure my internet connection??
I use Windows XP 32-bit!
Nahiyan
Yes dude the guy is pranking you…
There is a lot of ways to do that kind of joke. First if you have a router you should reset it to defaults.
Then you should check if you are using a proxy and if you are disable it. Then you should…. HEY what am I doing here?! I can be hera all day long. The best way you solve your problem is after reset your router, format your pc and reinstall windows xp (do your backups first so you not lose your files). THEN INSTALL anti-virus and firewall (this is VERY important).
It is boring that you have to reinstall windows but trust me there is SO MANY ways to do that stuff that you can lose days searching for the problem…
Do you have any idea who this guy is that you’re having to call each time?? Is he from a company or something? Or just some random individual?
Is your router wireless enabled? It could be someone close by using your connection.
As it’s a local number, I guess it could be one of your not so very funny neighbours.
I normally find that a baseball bat to the face of the so called “JOKER” tends to be a bit funnier
Let us know how you get on.
This dude is like a local dude.. Tho the way he speaks over the phone shows that he is a little bit of sophisticated.. I dont have a router or anything.. Just a cable connected to my computer.. I did one thing yesterday.. I changed my DNS and after that it didnt show any problem like that… but.. I use ESET Smart Security and a firewall too.. Cant install the windows now again.. But please tell me of any other way?? Please??
I’m not sure whether it works, but I think it does:
1. Bypass the DNS server by going to your Network and Sharing Center.
2. Click Change adapter settings
3. Right click on the Network adapter (either Local Area Network or Wireless Network Connection) that you are using and click properties.
4. Double click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
5. Select Use the following DNS server addresses:
For Preferred DNS Server, use: 8.8.8.8
For Alternate DNS Server, use: 8.8.4.4
He knew you were using OpenDNS so he just played a trick on you by registering there and putting in your IP address and setting up some filters. It’s very easy to play this “trick”. A quick workaround is just using another DNS provider. Check the post above me.
Give your browser name and version.
