Performance question

August 4th, 2016

I’m using Traktor on my laptop, and when I mix, I don’t want the computer to under perform.
It’s a Dell Inspiron 1521. I thought to up the OS to Windows 7 a while back from Vista as it was dragging balls.
Just wondering if it will be better, performance wise, to load music tracks from my external HD, via USB 2.0 (Western Digital) than the internal HD.
Thank You
(Also, cleared all programs, cleared cache, configured for performance, laptop stand to prevent over-heat etc. Had a thought to up the RAM to help with Traktor)
Should I just get a new laptop?

Internal HD is faster than ANY external HD except for ESATA (external sata) (I don’t know if lappys have it).
Clear cache, don’t do anything but Traktor, maybe disable antivirus while you use it then re-enable it.
Defrag hd about once a month/fortnight (it depends on how much use).
More memory is ALWAYS good, up to 8G (or 16 if really essential, but 8 should be Ok for you).
Mind you, it’s a Sempron – you should have a i5 for that sort of work.. 667MHz ram speed is also pretty lame..
if you have the $$, look for an i5 or i7, 8G – you should be OK with about 600..
