PC trouble

August 6th, 2016

Hi guys, i dont know if i posted this the right place or not but here we go..
When i get home from work i like the play the ocational bf3 online game..
But yesterday my pc went into black screen when i got into the game. And i noticed not only the black screen but also in my logitech keyboard display that my evga utility freezes too..
Theres no problems when im in windows and surfing the web, its only when i try to use a game. Theres no loss in power doing anything but gaming or at any other time. I tried installing furmark and when i run that it gives me the same result. The windows performance index gives me a black screen too.
When i go into nvidia control pa the nvidia logos spins perfectly.. I have no dots or lines on my screen..
Im running
AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black 3,20ghz
Asrock 970 Extreme 3
Nvidia GTX560 TI
Corsair 8gb rams, i dont know the model (my friend whos gonna be working offshore for the next couple of weeks build the damn thing)
Samsung HD753LJ Ata Hard Drive
Energon EPS 650W powersupply
My computer is not dusty, the powersupply is fairly old and from my older pc and the same with the hard drive.
Anyone know what might cause this problem?

Answer #1
so black screen only appears on games?
try removing your video card.. then conduct a windows performance index
if no black screen might a video card problem..
or try reseating your video card.. clean some dust.. inspect for a bloated capacitor
then try updating its drivers..
Answer #2
Have you monitored the temps of the CPU and GPU while idling and under load?
As mentioned, video card could be sus, but I would be thinking more in terms of a sick power supply if temps are OK.
You require more current when gaming or doing tests.
Aida64 is an excellent app for checking that.
You can monitor everything under “sensor” while you run a stability test.

I tought the same thing too, so i tried to clean it and reseat it, but it gave the same result.. :/..
But i just tried to deactivate it and run a windows performance index, and it didnt freeze, it couldnt finish the test but it didnt freeze, good thing there still a warranty on it..
BTW tried updating too, nothing :/ I noticed when running a performance index that it crashes in the start of the test, in the direct x part of the test. I tried running the update tool for direct x, but it said there was none, is there a way to repair it? I know it comes with windows 7 so i cant unistall it..

Yeah, ive never had high temps on it, not even in bf3 it runs 55C on 80 fps..
Since i cant really play anything right now i cant measure the voltage on the gpu under pressure, but in idle it gets 0,950V
My buddy told me when he built the pc that he did not know if the power supply was powerfull enough to run this rig since its an energon? but then why would the problem appear out of thin air?
Answer #4
hmmm so this might be a power supply problem
i can’t find the specs of the power supply..
why does it appear out of this air?
at first couple of months/week usage the power supply can still
extract juice for your video card.. but as time flies.. extracting more juice
is slowly killing your power supply.. i might say your PSU is generic..
hmm have some reliable ones..

Answer #6
I’d agree it’s likely the PSU – that one did not review well.
Someone even wrote, “I’ve seen the 650W model and is almost as light as a sheet of paper so I’d advise you to stay away…they probably overrate it by god knows how much”.
Can you borrow a decent one to test?
Answer #7
Im not sure, ill have to check with some friends..
What manufacturers can you guys recommend?

Different people will favour different brands..
If I said “Antec”, someone else might say “Yuck!, NO!”.
I think that Corsair is pretty much a trusted brand though – their 750/850 and up are very nice.
OCZ, cooler master, etc..
Just make sure it’s a known name – one you see in the compouter magazines or the review sites..
