Partitioning a hhd on win 7

January 6th, 2014

OK guys or gals
this is my dilemma, I have a 500 gigs hhd
I allocated 20 gigs for the windows 7 which got formatted and loaded with win 7
my problem is that the remaining 480 gigs were not formatted and I can’t
access it
dumb ass me forgot
so I’m sitting with a system with win 7 on 20 gigs and the remaining 480 un-usable
how can I correct this problem
thanks in advance peeps

Firstly, 20GB is way too low for any Windows installation yet alone Windows 7. Secondly, you can manage allocated and unallocated space via disk management. Run > diskmgmt.msc OR right click computer > manage > disk management.

and there is another easy way try to use ur Win7 installation Disc
go on with the steps till u see the partition selection menu u will see ur already partitioned drive
and below it u will see the unallocated space then look the the bottom menu Press adavnced
then select the space and click on create down select ur desired size and here u go after that just do a restart and remove ur disc and u good to go
and another hint to have a good windows 7 exprince make the main partition at least 50 Gigs +
cause 20 is to little as the system it self consum over 16 gigs and then u have nothing else
hope that help’s

Go to Disk Management and you should see the unallocated space.
Right click of C: drive and “Extend Volume” so it is a least 50GB.
Then with the rest of the space you can make another drive (or 2)
Make the partition(s) and format them and make sure they are allocated a drive letter.
EDIT..As said you can’t extend the Windows partition in Windows..
So you need to use something like Easus or Acronis Disk Director..

You can’t extend the Windows partition within Windows.
Answer #5
Install EASEUS Partition Master Pro …. then you can sort it out easily using that. Extend your Windows 7 Partition first (40/50 gigs at least), then, when you have done that create a partition using the unallocated space, or create more than one partition if you like. Make sure the OS partition is the only one set to active and make sure any partitions you create are not set to hidden.
