Core i7 930 @2.8Ghz (8MB Cache and HT-Enabled)
Corsair Dominator 6GB DDR3 @1600Mhz Coolermaster Silent Pro 800W Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 32MB [1*n]
LG/Asus DVD-RW+
eVGA nVIDIA GTX 460 1GB
These would cost arnd $900.. Well you still have to purchase the mobo, coolers, cathode tubes [if you need] and tower
Answer #7
Thats a good config, except for the PSU, 800W is quadruple overkill… 650W should be enough.

Do you want me to add another 2gb of ram? What is the difference in the triple channel
Also, Is 600W-650W enough for HD Radeon 5850?
Answer #18
Although there really isn’t any difference except in benchmarking, there are six slots in your motherboard for a reason – for triple channel. Any other person would recommend triple channel for an i7 build.
I wouldn’t get the 5850 anymore as mentioned by others. SLI GTX 460s or the new 6850/6870s are the way to go. 600W is more than enough for a single card setup.

Should definitely grab another stick of RAM to take advantage of triple channel.. Looks good though
How many drives in your array?

im gonna quote myself from a ddifferent thread here:
why do ppl go overboard with computers these days? if it’s games u r worried about that don’t be.
i bought my rig almost 3 years ago (cpu bought in 2007 and gpu at 2008) and i can still run every game (besides GTAIV) on max settings on 1680X1050 with AAX2 or AAX4 and get smooth framerates. i have no doubt in my mind COD:BO will work smoothly on my machine. in fact i can’t see ANY game that i will have troubles to run. not crysis 2, not two worlds 2, not brink, not even rage.
my rig is a Q6600 @ 2.4ghz, 2GB ram, HD4870 512mb , win XP. that rig, which is pretty medium range, is fully capable for any game to play well.
it’s not like i will recommend a new pc gamer to buy MY rig but im pretty sure any one of the suggested above will hold well for years.
why? cuz almost every game that came out since 2006 is multiplatform and is optimized to work on a 4 year old hardware. any new hardware will hold just fine until the new generation of consoles comes out and that will take some time.

Tell me something. When you’re going to get a computer. Do you look for something that’s *NEW* in the market or an outdated technology?
When you are spending money on something, You do want to get the best out of it Right? What you are suggesting is suitable for people who already have a *QUAD* & trying to upgrade to an i7 or something.

Thanks mate. Well Yep I’m thinking of Triple Channel in nearby!
Answer #23
i understand u , darkknight, but still – if u want to get somewhere in 100MPH no need to buy a lamburgini that can travel at 200MPH (or more).
if someone has a limit to his budget than when in comes to computer for gaming the demands of today’s games are not what they used to. no need to spend top dollar for an overkill. the technology in my rig is not outdated. there’s nothing i can’t do with it which makes it very much up-to-date. no need to buy something crappy either, but there is a room for compromise.

7.0 hard drive rating with a mechanical drive? Now that’s new. The highest max for a single drive is 5.9. Raid can go around 6.1. Well anyway congrats on the new rig

Well, if your splashing a grand on your PC, then you’d expect it to be the best F*CKING piece of PCB filled sh|t this side of the atlantic. However, I remember about 6 years ago, my gran spent 1500 on her PC for some reason, we’re talking , not $! (all she needed were the facilities to join the “e-mail revolution” per say, and to be able to play solitaire). Now i’ll tell you, that said PC, is probably one of the worst, most useless piles of wasted sh|t on the planet. It takes a good 5 minutes, just to load Yahoo as far as I remember, and it takes around 10 mins to boot up, about 2 minutes to open ANY double clicked icon.
Collectively, I’ve probably spent a total of around 600-700 on my PC over the last 3-4 years. I never spend less than 100 on a GFX card, my 2 best cards cost me like 120 and my current one 160 HD4870 1gb (best of the cheap end, or a good mid range card). It plays EVERYTHING, even crysis doesn’t lag on high, when combined with only 3gb of RAM and a humble 3GHZ dual core CPU. However, In my opinion (which HAS been shaped and probably warped and twisted by personal experience), PC’s are just sh|t, out and out wastes of time that shorten your life expectancy through extreme stress lol. Give them a year or less, and your already having BIG problems, you fix it, then straight away, your having a different problem, so, you spend time and cash fixing this new problem, only to be immediately slapped in the face by another even bigger problem, that costs time and money. Repeat this pattern over and over for as long as you own a PC, and you get a brief idea of how cool PC’s are.
My specs are showing their age now, but as I said, I can still play EVERYTHING smoothly, eg Assassins Creed, Crysis, NFS-Shift (rubbish game lol), Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2, Split Second, Deadspace, Resident Evil 5, No problems whatsoever.
3 GHz dual core
3Gb of DDR2 RAM (knocked down from 4gb cos of the stupid 32bit RAM limitations)
1TB SATA II HDD (f*cking up after less than a year)
500GB SATA II HDD (~ censored ~ up after about a year, and the external enclosure was faulty out of the box)
HD4870 with 1GB of DDR4 VRAM
F*ck PC’s, I love them, but I also hate them to death. I’m thinking of getting a mac G5, or building a Hackintosh, so I can concentrate more on professionally making my music and more practical things than just playing games.
Answer #26
@ D R E A M : Actually, There are few corrections.
The processor isn’t 930 but it’s 950
EDIT: Looks like I’ve fixed processor already (I think there’s a edit in my post).
Regarding HDD OMG true (but rest assured is the same )
(Didn’t realize until now , it was copy pasta of config done by my buddy tbh ) (oh well here you go again!)
(I’ll fix the processor thing too) http://lulzimg.com/i8/6bd8d685.png

How much did you spent for each parts? And GTX460 and 470 are really good cards, + they are easily overclockable.. You should have gone with nVIDIA, anyways…

470 is really out of my pocket. So sorry can’t.
I got it at a fair price.
I got it for 1200$+Service Tax.
I heard nVIDIA overheats a lot? (I’ve been hearing rumors about them so..)

Overheat? Only if you overclock.. The temp. is pretty normal.. My 9500GT is around ~45C idle and my HD 5770 ~50C idle.. Anyways that is one cool price.. Where do you live?

Not every Nvidia card is hotter than AMD ones.
The GTX 460 for instance is probably the coolest of the GTX 400 series, heck its even cooler than any AMD 5800 series or the 6800 series.

Tell you what I HATE is when i see a windows score like that, all brought down by the hard drive. Mines the same. I currently have a western digital 500GB 7,200 rpm drive which is bringing my computer score to the same level as that. Just ordered a new Samsung F3 1TB Drive, to try and bring the speed up and to fit all of my STEAM games on! Nice machine though – Could do with my GFX score improving as still sat at 7.2 with a 1.8GB GTX260
Might look at a similar card if I upgrade!
