Network extension help

August 2nd, 2016

Hello all, I’ve got a quick question of someone can point me in the right direction. The Internet comes into the house downstairs and directly into a Sky wifi router. Because I can never get a signal upstairs, I’ve run an ethernet cable upstairs from the router downstairs.
I’m after a router that I can plug the ethernet cable into and feed it the signal from downstairs. I want to be able to run several “wired” devices from it but also be able to get a “boosted” wifi signal from it. In a nutshell, I have an ethernet cable upstairs providing the Internet and I want to run wired and wireless devices from this. I hope that makes sense. Any ideas?

Almost any router will do; you just need to set it in repeating mode / access point.
This makes the router, as you put it, an extension of the one downstairs. By making it an access point only, the downstairs router remains the server for your entire network.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll have a look for an access point.
Answer #3
you just need a wireless switching hub.. or a wired one if you don’t need the wireless..
