Need help with dvd burning (Dual layer Verbatim)

May 28th, 2014

hi my friend wants a boxset burning smallville all seasons as it would cost me in discs for single layer i was wondering how many episodes i would be able to fit onto a dual layer disc (each episode been roughly 50mins each) and also will convertxtodvd be capable of burning dual layers. my final question is if convertxtodvd works fine with dual layer will i be able to burn at 8x which is verbatim maximum burn speed
thanks help is really appreciated

Answer #1
It would probably be cheaper to buy twice as many single layer DVDs.
Answer #2
ive got the dual layer dvds in fact i have 25 of them but was just wondering how many movies would i be able to fit onto 1 dual layer dvd each episode is about 350mb and run for about 50mins
Answer #3
Just open ConvertX and pick a random number of episodes and see if it gives you any problems. I’d guess you could put 8-10 on a dual layer.
Answer #4
ok thanks btw ive read on google that if the movie files can all fit onto one disc then the minutes shouldn’t really matter just some information if you tell me if this is right i’d be grateful thanks

Convertxtodvd will burn to +/-DL discs fine, the question is if your friends dvd player will play them (I am assuming your friend is using a standalone dvd player). The more episodes you put on the disc will result in loss in quality.
I haven’t used convertxtodvd in a long time, as most dvd players can now play Xvid and DivX files etc, but I did find quality would deteriorate on a dual layer disc after about 6 hours worth, so in your case about 7-8 episodes.
A simpler solution if your friend can play them, is burning them as data discs. You should be able to get about 22 episodes on a disc (7.95 GB/350 MB)

my friend she rather uses a dvd player or xbox 360 to watch them how would i burn them as data discs just so that i dont have to give her loads of dvds after each season has about 21-22 episode so data disc would be a perfect option

^^^Very easily…Just burn as data to disk using Nero or ImgBurn(freeware).
Burn slow though.nor faster than x4…Only takes a few minutes longer and is more likely to be read OK by the stand alone player..
AVI files will play on a stand alone DVD player provided it says it is DivX or MPEG4 compatible..
If your files are no more than 700MB, you can burn one to a CD as a test..

the video files are all .avi so the xbox 360 should be able to play them and a dvd player will play them if it says divx or mpeg4 compatible. im just wanting to know more info and research so that i dont waste valuable discs

It would probably be cheaper to buy twice as many single layer DVDs.Truse not mentioning compatibility issues whit other hardware.
I would get a WD player external instead of any dvd player these days.
Answer #10
Jus get a external hardrive which is fat32 format. Copy all the avi files in external hardrive. Then Plug external hardrive in ur xbox 360 or DVD player (If the DVD player has a USB slot)
by doin this way u will not waste any DVD discs and also this is the way to go

Personally I just use a 2TB Cyclone Primus media player – it will play anything you throw at it (and connect things to it via USB)
But rather moot as the guy is asking about burning discs.
@iMFaRTiN – you can burn the files using any .UDF (Universal Disk Format ) burn engine, I use Roxio DLA (formerly Sonic DLA), but you can use IMGburn, Nero etc.

You do not need to use convertxtodvd to transcode the files.

You seemed to have missed the point of the discussion .
You have two choices..
1. If you have a DVD player or other device that is DivX/MPEG4 compatible ,then burn them as data to disk…No conversion necessary.
2. If you want them to play on ANY DVD player, then you must convert then to the full DVD Video format using ConvertXtoDVD or similar..

Exactly
@ iMFaRTiN – ask your friend if she wants to play them on her xbox, or a standalone dvd player.
If she says standalone dvd player – ask her if it will play divx/xvid etc.
If she says xbox, or her standalone player will play divx/xvid etc, then you keep the files as .avi, you do not need to transcode them, just burn with IMGburn “Write files/folders to disc” option. You would probably be best to put these in a directory (folder) before you burn – and as already mentioned – you can put 22 on a DL disc this way.
If she wants to watch on a standalone dvd player which won’t play divx/xvid etc, you will have to burn them using convertxtodvd. This method though, you will only be able to put about 6 hours worth on one disc, otherwise the quality will start to deteriorate.
