my xp is invalid, can upgrade it with another version?

Hi.. my xp crack i was using has been found out, so i can no longer update my xp.
If I donwload another xp from here, and then try to upgrade, will it let me?
Or do i have to do a total fresh install? And loose all my data ,programmes, settings etc?

NO, spoke too soon, now im getting a lot of error messages appear when i restart, plus a huge logo on ym desktop telling me xp is not genuine, plus everytime i restart, i get an option of wether to run the installed xp, or install a new one, even tho i dont have a boot disk in there.. it must be left over from when i tried to install one, but now i cant get it off.

I managed to get the notifier turned off.
