Learning english from Basics

October 2nd, 2022

Hey there,
I have to learn english from basics which will include all the things such as grammar etc. I tried rosetta stone, but it was not effective as my grammar is not that much well, so I thought I will start from the basics. Please suggest me resources or e-books to learn it from the basic level. Also my vocabulary is very much poor. I need advice on that also.
Thanks in advance.

google is your best friend dude
search it and get it

Since your English is already quite good, I suggest you just read an English novel that you find interesting.
Whatever you like, really, as long as it’s decently written. Even Harry Potter, if you like I can usually distinguish between people who read lots and people who don’t, simply from their grammar and spelling.

Actually I tried few, but never get expected results. I tried some ebooks, they were not specifics and too much offtopic in that.

Thanks Eva for the suggestion. Actually I can read very well, but its problem with my spoken english. While writing the things, you get very much time for thinking. But while speaking, its actually hard to compile a statement and speak it. English is not my primary language. Also I haven’t done that much conversation with my friends. We all talk here in our first language. So there is something missing. I have to learn some basic grammar first so that I can compile the statements very well and then have to increase some vocabulary so that I can use proper words instead of giving detailed description of that term.
I hope, I’ve cleared my views and Hoping some help from you guys.
Thanks.

Start with the absolute basics:
Grammar: http://www.grammarbook.com/english_rules.asp#grammarRules
Punctuation: http://www.grammarbook.com/english_rules.asp#punctuationRules
Capitalization: http://www.grammarbook.com/punctuation/capital.asp
Commonly confused words: http://www.grammarbook.com/homonyms/confusing-words-1.asp
Once you understand all that, you just have to work on your vocabulary. I suggest reading a lot; news, books, blogs, subtitles, whatever you want.
I’d just like to take this opportunity to remind all of you who’ve done it that ‘English’ is spelled with a capital ‘E’.

Watch 10 movies with your own language’s subtitles,
then 10 more movies with english subtitles,
then 10 movies with no subtitles at all,
then start reading music lyrics and looking up every word you don’t know in the dictionary.
English is my third language, And I scored 99 in all school exams.

Tests mean nothing to be honest. I do tests all the time, and I get perfect scores, but in real life situations my knowledge of English can be mediocre.

Thanks Guys and Especially , I’ll have a look at it. Actually I’m learning it from a site named http://www.englishclub.com/
They’ve got nice tutorials and explained each and every aspects of English. What do you think ? Is it good ?

The site you are suggesting isn’t bad, but nothing can help you like reading books and watching to english movies with english subtitles, and using your english frequently.

I checked out that site and it’s fine.
Another suggestion I have is to get a friend who knows English very well on MSN and have him/her correct you. You learn from your mistakes basically. When you make a mistake, your friend will correct you, and from then you’ll know how to do it correctly.

I’d love to help but I’m not ever on MSN and my English really isn’t all that great. I do English my way. I don’t play by the rules. Whatever looks and sounds right is my way of writing/typing.

since your written english is excellent, but you’re not comfortable speaking, then you clearly need to practice talking with native speakers! surely there are some around – seek them out! my wife is not a native english speaker. in the few years we’ve been together, her english has improved dramatically. she hasn’t studied, but we speak english a lot, which is really the best possible way to learn.

Thanks for the advice guys. Now I’m going to do following things, hoping they will help me to improve my English.
1. Read a topic everyday from this site to clear basic concepts and some minor/major mistakes
http://www.englishclub.com/learn-english.htm
2. Watch an English movie everyday, first of all for one week with Subtitle and then without Subtitle.
3. Will listen some English Songs for 1 hour while I’m doing some other work on .
4. And the most important, “I will stick with the fact that I have to talk with my friends in English Only even if they are talking with me in native language”.
I think it will improve my English. If you want to make some correction in above steps, you are free to tell me.
PS: Eva is “she” and not “he”.
