Internet connection sharing doesn’t let server ping clients
January 23rd, 2020
I have a Windows XP laptop with a wireless adapter that gets internet. I have enabled internet connection sharing on WinXP. This sets its Local Area Connection IP to 192.168.0.1 by default. I have to change the router IP address (192.168.0.1) to (192.168.200.1) to avoid conflict. I then plug a LAN cable into a port on my DIR-600 router market ‘Internet’. The router is assigned an IP via DHCP and it receives internet. I realized, however, that the PC’s connecting to the router could see the one giving internet, but the opposite was not true. The PC giving internet could not see the PC’s connecting to the router via other ports or wirelessly. Now i understand that the PC’s are experiencing this problem because the router is on the 200 subnet whereas the ‘server’ is on the 0 subnet. i have tried setting them on the same subnet, but then i can’t ping the server and internet stops working. Likewise, if i plug the lan cable into any other port besides the one clearly marked internet, i get no internet. How can i share internet and still access clients from the server
I realized, however, that the PC's connecting to the router could see the one giving internet, but the opposite was not true. The PC giving internet could not see the PC's connecting to the router via other ports or wirelessly.
If the computers are directly connecting to the router to access the internet than what what is this “one giving internet” ?
The internet is being given to the router by the server PC

I believe a static route should help. Look it up. Different operating systems require different methods
perhaps you draw a brief diagram of your network setup with some info about the ip addressing – that would make it a bit easier to understand
Router will always block access to lan pcs from the wan side. If you want the pc giving internet to see the pc’s connected to it on the lan side then you need to set up port forwarding.
