INTEL VS AMD and little on Quad cores vs dual
July 25th, 2016
Will there ever be games that strictly will only work on quad core processors? If not I will stick to dual cores or triple cores.
Here is a nice website with a good comparison of both products:
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/desktop-cpu-charts-q3-2008/Crysis-1680x1050,818.html
Just take a look… it helped me decide
I can't decide, Intel or AMD gaming rig. My budget is like $750 with a monitor. Intel uses cleaner products but AMD is better for money/performance wise. I'm not looking for AMD or Intel fanboys I just want honest opinions. Also...

No clue if they’ll ever force Quad Core, but I think it’ll be standard in no time anyway. With Quad Core you just have more cores to sort work out on. So it usually runs a lot smoother with less spikes.
As for Intel and AMD goes. I’ve used both. Been happy with both, but I think Intel is the most stable, so I would go with that.

Price/Performance is better with Intel now actually

No offence, but why is Intel more stable? I has Intel btw
Just wanna know, cuz i dont know why, only thing from amd that sucks is the thermal throttling.
I’v heard AMDs are harder for overclocking

I can’t give you a hardware reason, just my experience with cores used by friends, where one had an AMD correspondant to an Intel, and the AMD just had more problems.. Also.. Note the “I think”
eheh okayy
edit: ontopic: amd is good and cheap, intel is good and expensive, not really much of a diffrence

go for an amd gaming rig, since your budget is a little low…
I prefer amd, but i gotta admit, the i7 is the best of the best, but too expensive for you
dual cores are good, if you go for a dual core then go for the Phenom II X2 at only $100 plus ive heard that you can easily achieve 3.8Ghz to 3.9Ghz on air and the two extra cores can be unlocked easily although if you want to overclock with the 4 cores, you might want to get an aftermarket heat sink and fan

I’ll never use anything extreme enough to take full advantage of an i7. I can’t decide between an E8400 or a QXXXX. I heard that a Phenom 720 X3 can overclock to 4.05-4.5 on a stock fan, i may have misread it. I plan on building one in an Antec 900 case to avoid purchasing spare fans. Here’s my current wishlist, improvements encouraged
CASE:
Antec Nine Hundred Mid Tower ATX – $99.99
MOBO:
EVGA nForce 750i SLI FTW – $115.99
HDD:
Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB 7200rpm Sata – $89.99
PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS – $54.99
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 – $115.00 (Free CodWAW)
RAM:
CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory – $46.99
Monitor: ASUS VH226H Black 21.5″ 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor – $159.99
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz – $167.99
Total: $850.93 Eh 100 bucks off :S
I’m an overclocker and want to avoid SLI because 1 card is enough for me.

Then get a good P45 motherboard. Around the same price and they overclock better

Link me please? I thought nForce mobos oc better o_o
Link me please? I thought nForce mobos oc better o_o
nForce only the 780i/790i boards are known for OC. Get ASUS P5Q series or Gigabyte EP45-UD3*Intel e7400 C2D — $120 (Can find cheaper)
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P — $115 AR
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm — $30 (Can find cheaper)
Antec 300 — $50
500W ModXStream (Modular/SLI/Crossfire) — $50 AR
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB — $100
With enough $$ left over to buy a pair of sick GFX Cards and run them in SLi or CrossFire (since that’s really what’s going to help gaming). Not to mention you’ll be able to OC that CPU well past 4Ghz.
Optical — $20
DDR2 — $Cheap nowadays. Think 30$ for 4gb AR
i am intel user since 95! I loved intel and swear on intel, but only since then, when they stolen AMD technology. I discovered that at beginning of the year!
core2quad is actually 2 x core2duo cpus combined whit cash memory (that they stolen)! Now if u ask me, i would purchase AMD X3, new technology, whit 3 CPUs that work simultaneously… Whit enormous L2 cash… and of curse only DDR3
http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/processors/phenom/Pages/AMD-phenom-processor-X4-X3-at-home.aspx
P.S that’s my opinion
AMD Balanced Smart Cache

u asked for opinion, i told you mine
L3 Cash m8!
i’ll flip a coin, heads its intel, tails its amd, best 2 out of 3.
I would go for the AMD Phenom XII Black Editions. It sounds good and you don’t have to pay allot to get the high end of AMD processors.
It has an unlocked multiplier so its more flexible.

AMD won the coin toss. I think a triple core is good because it’s half way to a quad core and if games come out that take advantage of 2 or more cores, I’ll have that extra core to take that advantage without spending more on a quad. But what I’m worried about is that AMD tend to get hotter than Intel and use more electricity.
WHY IS IT SO HARD TO CHOOSE A PROCESSOR

You worry too much, buy one that’s within your budgets and suits your needs. A funny thing is that on some Phenom X3’s you can unlock the 4th core using some motherboards.

How so? I want to oc a 720 at 4ghz with stock cooling just like the E8400 except itll be cheaper.
Answer #23
If so, you buy a aftermarket cooler, its getting hot anyways.

Mhmm if both the E8400 and 720 are almost the same, then why must i get a 3rd party cooler if i can use the stock one on an E8400 with same performance?
Answer #25
Its your own decision, we can only suggest. If your going to overclock, the stock cooler will sit in your closet.

Answer #27
Good cooler, good Mobo, good PSU = good overclock.
Answer #28
AMDs are not nearly as OC friendly as the E8xxx series are.. And you’ve got to remember the mobo’s with the feature to unlock the other cores are limited, and a lot of those cores were locked for a reason (unstable). IMO never get an AMD counting on the unlockable cores, it is a plus but hardly a sure thing.

Can anyone back this up?

Use Intel, AMD sucks, IMHO

Why does it suck?
Answer #32
With Intel, you’ll find much more different motherboards to choose from. So I’d say Intel
Answer #33
AMD Does not suck. I use both if you’re more on a budget for a gamepc go AMD .. if you have more money go Intel.. make sure you get a very good Motherboard You might want to upgrade your CPU down the road so make sure you get a good brand..
Answer #34
i think intel=quality, imo amd is like rough. Thats from what i’ve heard BUT its good for mid-range systems

Well you can go that way and hope AMD will last to make the market more competitive, so you can get a good processor for a lower price. As in a consumer’s standard computer, there isn’t much semiconductor manufacturers that can make a processor as fast as Intel, AMD or IBM.
There are little ones, VIA for instance.
Note: IBM doesn’t sell to average consumers and their processors are server orientated or game consoles. So its like if AMD goes down, expect to pay about twice as much for the same product.

What do you think about this? How can I improve this to fit under the 750 mark? I already have an optical drive/floppy drive so ill cross that off the list.

i thnk amd is gud for gamin but only with the super video cards..
intel sorts out d things easily
i ‘ll prefer intel

Go down to the antec 300. Get the E7400 (will OC nearly the same). ZipZoomFly has Gigabyte Radeon HD 4850 1GB GDDR3 PCE Express Video Card $90AR.
Choose a more budget OCer Mobo.

What Mobo do you recommend?
ATI cards don’t run as well in Crysis and don’t overclock that well either and aren’t good in Crossfire compared to SLI. Mhmm, are there a lot of spots to mount fans in the Antec 300?

Go for intel if your newer with pc’s and your not into the technical aspects
but if you know a bit about a PC go with AMD i personally believe that amd is better bang for your buck
everybody thinks the i7 is the best there is but they have yet to figure out i can buy a 3.2 ghz quad amd and over clock it tp 6ghz with water for under $200 while you spend $900 for a 2.66 quad core i7 and it is compareable im not saying that my setup will always win against yours but its very comparable and i saved $700 to build the rest of my PC with
