I’m sick and tired of software slowing down my system

January 30th, 2020

Hi,
Lately my PC takes 10 min to start and with that I mean it takes 10 min for everything to settle down after booting windows meaning that I have 0% CPU, Memory and Disk usage.
First of my damn antivirus software slows down my PC especially on startup, it’s using so much CPU and Memory % that I really have to wait 10 min in order for me to finally start using my PC. I can feel the slowdown, the sluggish feeling and it’s not fun for me to watch.
I miss those days when I do a fresh windows install, my PC boots literally under 10s, everything is ready after those 10s, no high cpu and memory usage, nothing.
I’m beginning to think that todays software is the cause of our systems running slower be it antivirus software or a browser, everything makes our system slower and that has to stop. It’s not normal that firefox or any antivirus software or even windows updates slows our system down making it useless and giving us anger issues that you want to take a hammer and crush the s h i t out of our PC’s lol. I don’t have a cheap or slow system, I have a pretty good gaming pc: i5 2500k 4.5 GHZ (stable), 16 GB ram, Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970GTX, windows 8.1 64 bit
What’s up with firefox? It used to be fast and bugfree now it’s only causing slowdowns, it’s making my system very slow. Especially the flash plugin imo. It takes minutes to load facebook, I can literally see the hangups, I mean it’s funny I have a pretty good system and firefox is making my pc look like it’s a pentium 2.
Also lately I’ve been having a strange problem after using 2 monitors. So I have my main monitor a LG 27EA33 and my Panasonic 50 inch Plasma TV. I’m using my TV to play games in my bed with my PS3 controller and after I shut down my pc and the next time I turn on my PC my screen is black … no matter what I do, reconnecting all the cables etc I still have a black screen and it fixes itself after 5 min or so and I finally have picture on my main monitor. Don’t know what’s causing that problem, maybe the nvidia driver is buggy? Windows 8.1 is a piece of s h i t OS? Yeah I have issues with software lol they all seem to cause some kind of trouble. It’s always something.
Is there anything that I can do to make my system as fast as when I did a fresh windows install? I don’t want to have the slowdowns anymore, I don’t want to wait for 10 min for my system to be idle and ready for usage. I’m sick of that.
I almost want to format c: and install linux on my system just for daily pc usage like surfing and watching youtube etc but than Linux is ~ Lovely ~ for games, I won’t be able to play 90% of the games on the market.
Why did they make windows such a piece of s h i t software? Why does it have so many bugs? Why does it cause so much system slowdowns and crashes? Why why why? Is it so hard to make windows like linux?
Yeah sure I could do a fresh windows install and don’t install any kind of antivirus software and just use IE but then I will get so many virusses and trojans and malware faster than you can say oops
Anyone else sick and tired of what I’m experiencing?

First of all, without meaning to be offensive, for a total 95% of the problems of a PC the real cause is the user You do have some rights though, most users haven’t said good words about Win8 and some AVs do cause lots of startup delays. I’ve used Firefox extensively though and haven’t noticed a problem. To rectify your problems first get an independent malware scanner like malwarebytes or Zemana anti-malware and make a scan for virii, then use a cleaner like ccleaner to get rid of junk files. You could switch your AV with Qihoo 360 that has a nice interface and lots of interesting features imo and use a search engine to find the most stable versions of flash and Firefox and your gpu driver and install those. If you decide to make the switch to Linux, you’ll discover that besides the fact that several games currently have linux native steam version, PlayonLinux also has been greatly improved and most games will run extemely stable under Wine.

Yeah that’s true but I’m not one of those 95%
Actually I’m using malwarebytes lol and that is causing the big startup delay atleast for me it is. On top of that firefox is the second biggest slowdowner for my system. Also I am using ccleaner.
The only antivirus that doesn’t cause any kind of slowdown is AVG but that is a piece of bunk lol. I’ve tried them all, all the famous antivirus software and they all cause slowdowns. But maybe just maybe the reason why it’s causing slowdowns is because all the software that I download is from and they all are cracked, so maybe it’s a bad crack or maybe just maybe (think of it) everything here on has hidden malware and trojans
How can we be 100% certain that everything we download on is clean and doesn’t have hidden doors? Ever thought about that?
Well that I didn’t know, suddenly Linux seems interesting if it has steam support then woot bye bye windows

I don’t use mbam as a firewall, only as an on-demand scanner. Idk about the software, most uploaders are supposed to be credible but personally I have no knowledge about the quality of the uploads, sure they could be infected for all I know.. PlayonLinux has support for the Windows steam client too.

The Firefox developers are a good example of what happens when you try to educate morons. The intelligent developers left after version 28.

Well, you must have some short patience.
My brother can turn on his PC, go and make some coffee. smoke a cigarette, make dinner, go for a jog and when he comes back to his PC, it will still be loading.
You, sir, don’t know the idea of a slow PC.
Seriously, my brother’s PC has been known to take hours to load. even days. I’m sick of fixing it so now it doesn’t get used I blame Windows, it’s always Windows fault.
Answer #6
buy SSD man
Answer #7
With Windows, you pretty much need to reformat every 6 mos to keep it running smooth.
Don’t install cleaning apps, for the most part, they do more damage then good.
Install only what you need, and use VMware to test apps you are not sure of.
Windows has been getting better over the years, but it still gets messed up way to easily.

first of all try unplugging all usb devices except mouse and keyboard from pc . then restart again to see if makes any difference, if it does tell us how much it does.
additionally download this
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902
a portable executable from microsoft. unpack it from the archive and run it by right clicking and selecting run as admin. this part is very important. after you ran it , without touching anything else take the full screen screenshot of 3 tabs which are “logon” , “scheduled tasks” and “services” and paste them here so we can see what bothers your pc that much. after these i will post an advanced defrag tool of using standard harddrive with capability of optimizing and moving system files to the beginning of the disk aside from core defrag function.
lastly dont use java or flash plugins since they are history and soon they will be really history with end of product line. firefox has started having some problems after version 40 but they were minor and mostly fixed , the serious problems you mention is related to your pc. those lagging can even be related to video drivers but first things is first , take screenshots

Do a clean reinstall, you will get what you are missing. After installing Windows and drivers, alao good to install al current windows updates, make an image with Acronis True Image, then you can simply retore that image next time.
Install Yamicsoft Windows 8 manager (or 10 if you upgrade) and use that to tweak settings, I have used it for many years and it is a very handy way to trim the system to work faster
The builtin Windows Defender is enough for AV, and you dont really notice it.
Also, if you are on Win8, you should really upgrade to 10 first.
And you really should get an SSD if you dont have one
Nvidia driver 359.06 is the last good one, newer ones have been worse, so install that one
Answer #10
As the man says, get your free upgrade to 10 (having 8 would be almost as bad as having Vista!).
You can then do a clean install of 10 and still keep yourself genuine if you so wish.
You could also try a Repair Install of 10 after the upgrade.
That can clean things up and get it running smoothly, should you have any problems.

Win 10 is full of bugs, unstable and spy OS, I tried several versions. I don’t know what is wrong with win 8 but for me Win 7 is still the most stable and the best OS so far.

Well the only 2 extra things that I have besides mouse and keyboard are my webcam and bluetooth usb adapter and I’ve unplugged them and it doesn’t make any difference at all.
Here are the 3 screenshots:

It seems to me there isn’t anything abnormal here.
If I can’t use java or flash plugins, what’s the alternative? 99% of websites uses flash and java for multimedia like images and videos, for instance take facebook, if you don’t have flash you won’t be able to see anything besides text
Is there a firefox clone but without all the bugs that runs very stable and fast? I hate IE, i hate google chrome, the only browser that I do like is firefox and I’m really used to it. And yeah you and others are right about firefox, the last version that was really stable and bugfree was like version 36 or 37 if I remember correctly, all versions after that are a real pain in the a r s e.
It could be that I need to defrag my harddrive, it would prob make things faster and yeah the best solution is to buy a SSD and I will do that one of these days. Buy a SSD, do a fresh windows 10 install only install the programs that I need, no extra antivirus software.
Answer #13
As I said I’m using Win 7 but you can try this:
1. Defrag your Hdd.
2. Clear all System restore points (leave one just i case).
3. Download Iobit startup manager and kill all processes and startup programs that you don’t use…over time there is a tons of update software that can be pain in the ass (for Adobe programs…etc).
4. Clean your Registry with Registry first aid and don’t erase anything that is not checked.
5. Scan & Fix Hard Drive with CHKDSK command.
6. Do a Registry defrag.
7. Try to uninstall some hotfixes in win update. For me the biggest problem was updates for windows defender.
Answer #14
there are abnormal things at there such as integrated gpu driver is loading even if you are using dedicated nvidia gpu. i will write back in 1-2 hours when i have time.
firefox have inbuilt java , it has been smth like 5-6 years since i had java plugin and never got a problem with any site. if you get , it means that it is related to site. oracle officially announced java plugins will end so even if you want to use them you wont be able to soon:D as for flash, chrome has built in flash player and as for firefox you dont need flash plugin to watch videos on popular sites but only primitive sites. today standards rely on html5 for video streaming and built in player to the site. you can watch videos from youtube or imdb without having any flash installed at anywhere.
those flash and java are not related to your specific pc problems but they only cause problems and security vulnerabilities , they are the last 2 things you would want on a browser.

Some really bad answers here tbh. A guy with with 20 update services running from startup mentions his PC is slow at startup and is recommended either “update to w10!”, or “delete windows updates” It’s criminal, guys. Flash Player will slow down your FF. It’s crap, slow and glitchy. Apart from that, , you just need to keep your PC tidier. Stop all “update” services, stop Daemon startup, stop Apple startups, Skype update, WMP network update, Kies, bonjour.. None of these need to be started from boot, they will start when you start the program itself. ALL are using cpu to startup and check for updates as soon as you boot, which is not necessary, and is why your PC is struggling. Defrag is also vital on some PCs.
If I were you, I’d format and re-install, defrag straight away, then be more wary of what you have running in the background. When you install a new software go straight to it’s settings and disable updates/startup at boot.
Answer #16
ok now , first download these 2 software.
https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds
https://www.piriform.com/speccy/builds
download slim version of ccleaner at the bottom and portable version of speecy.
the autoruns software which you used for taking screenshot has not ability to disable entries but only delete. we will use ccleaner which has disable ability to be enabled later in case of any problem. unfortunately it only has scheduled tasks and logon. for services we have to it manually.
before doing anything , run autoruns as admin again and go to everything tab , look all entries and find the bright yellow ones , right click on them and then select delete. those are useless entries that may cause slowdown.
install ccleaner , slim is adfree version so you dont need to worry about toolbars during installation. after installation run it , go to options and disable things like “run at windows start up” , “auto check updates” , “explorer context menu entry” , “real time monitor” and all things like that. you already have enough unnecessary entry we dont need more. for the future , do this for every software you install except security software so things wont be cumulatively piled up like now.
after dealing with settings of ccleaner , restart it again. go to tools on the left then start up and at there windows tab. you should see all entries on logon of autoruns software except windows mail entry at the bottom of it. i want you to disable everything except rthdvcpl.exe which is realtek audio manager. all others are useless to run at start up , you maybe using many of them but they dont need to run at start up. i didnt see anything wrong with scheduled tasks.
now on to services , aside from nvsvc.exe all entries related to nvidia are useless , even spies your computer such as geforce experience. either you should delete everything related to nvidia on autoruns , by right clicking that entry then selecting delete or totally uninstall all nvidia things from your pc and download the latest version of drivers , during installation select custom and only install drivers nothing else if you dont have special surround system or nvidia 3d vision tools. for a standard user only drivers are necessary and also physx if it is on the list but i think it is installed along with drivers. i recommend doing the second option cuz directly removing an entry may cause problems. there are a few more useless services but removing them may cause problems since you seem like using tons of different devices
do things in the order of i write and restart your pc before uninstalling nvidia software if you will try that method. after uninstall you will be asked for restart again , after reinstalling you will be asked again which can be painful but it is the healthy way
when everything is done , restart once more to see if there is any difference , if there is ; is it minor or major ? if there is no difference at all or just a minor one , unpack the speccy software out of archive and run it as admin. go to the storage tab on the left , find your primary harddrive at there under drop down menu there should be something as SMART , tell me what is written for it , good , bad , critical etc.. ?
do these then we will do an advanced defrag for both registry and files , if again no luck. you should either format your pc or both format your pc and buy a ssd

Some really bad answers here tbh. or "delete windows updates" It's criminal, guys.
If you mean for my suggestion I don’t know what is so criminal about it. Recently I had to restore whole system just because I update all windows updates, so my pc become slow as hell, startup from 20 sec get to 1 min. on SSD. The worst updates are for windows defender and malicious removal tool.
