So you have material but you don’t know how to perform it?!
One word… DON’T!
The whole point is to be funny to the listeners, but if you don’t know how to act like comedian then better don’t quit your day job
Cheers

there are alot of books about beeing funny on amazon . look them up. the thing is if your not making your friends laugh then dont be a comedian. even if you you will probably not get far because alot of friends laugh at each other jokes. if u can make people that you dont know laugh( a legitimate laugh) then u might have a chance. its all about the image and the way you tell your jokes.

WRONG!
Book won’t make you funnier to others… It’s same as like you gonna be better in bed (sex) if you read books… (practice will make you better and your skills, not bunch of papers…)
Answer #4
You either got it or you don’t,If your not funny then just accept it and carry on,I doubt books will help you with this.

you are half right. practice will make you better at sex or at any other thing but if you do not know what your doing wrong no matter how much practice you have it wont solve your problems.
in order for someone to get better at something they must first know what they are doing wrong. books will provide you guidelines but in no way shape or form they will make you 1000 times better at sex or being funny or what so ever.
so im half right and your right and two rights make a full right.

robert400 and woot are unfortunately one of those people that have the mindset that you can only do something if you have it. they have been trained by disney movies that just to accept urself. unfortunately this method of thinking will only go to so far although it is much easier to take. i usually never like to give this advice because when you tell this to people they think your a snotty ~censored~. but trust me myfriend that in a dog eat dog world you can always make your self a better person. if you want to become funny you can, if you want to become healthy you can. hell if you want to become better at sex you can. all you need is ALOT of motivation and someone to guide you. fortunately in America there are alot of resources for self improvement, but all you need is just a bit of motivation my friend.

Some folks are just negative by nature. Feeding their fire is pointless. Just let em wallow in their own misery I say. That being said… Search local comedy clubs and Coffee Shops for an open mic night. Check by any Universities if there is any close. There’s a great documentary out on comedian Bill Hicks. Search for it here on warez-bb. Might give you some insight on what you need to do to get a start. Stay positive and don’t have any expectations on how it will go, just do it and find out. good luck
Answer #9
It may be my sense of humour, but I found this quite funny on it’s own.

The material is an important element of your act of course , you may want to consider a few drama lessons to be able to project your voice and maintain confidence , as for the doubters and people filled with negativity in this thread ignore them , they probably dont have the nerve to look at themselves in a mirror … goodluck !

That’s not such a bad idea..
Also try to entertain a few people down the pub or at parties and see how you go..
Speak up, act confident and natural, and take on the voice and the personallity of the material you are using..Gesticulate with your hands, so people will pay attention and enjoy the show.
It's same as like you gonna be better in bed (sex) if you read books... (practice will make you better and your skills, not bunch of papers...)
I presume this means that oral sex is not the same as just reading about it

Judy Carter “The Comedy Bible: From Stand-up to Sitcom–The Comedy Writer’s Ultimate “How To” Guide”
Fireside | 2001-08-07 | ISBN: 0743201256 | 368 pages | PDF | 2,2 MB
Do you think you’re funny?
Do you want to turn your sense of humor into a career?
If the answer is yes, then Judy Carter’s The Comedy Bible is for you. The guru to aspiring stand-up comics provides the complete scoop on being — and writing — funny for money.
If you’ve got a sense of humor, you can learn to make a career out of comedy, says Judy Carter. Whether it’s creating a killer stand-up act, writing a spec sitcom, or providing jokes for radio or one-liners for greeting cards, Carter provides step-by-step instructions in The Comedy Bible. She helps readers first determine which genre of comedy writing or performing suits them best and then directs them in developing, refining, and selling their work.
Using the hands-on workbook format that was so effective in her bestselling first book, Stand-Up Comedy: The Book, Carter offers a series of day-by-day exercises that draw on her many years as a successful stand-up comic and the head of a nationally known comedy school. Also included are practical tips and advice from today’s top comedy professionals — from Bernie Brillstein to Christopher Titus to Richard Lewis. She presents the pros and cons of the various comedy fields — stand-up, script, speech and joke writing, one-person shows, humor essays — and shows how to tailor your material for each. She teaches how to find your “authentic” voice — the true source of comedy. And, perhaps most important, Carter explains how to take a finished product to the next level — making money — by pitching it to a buyer and negotiating a contract.
Written in Carter’s unique, take-no-prisoners voice, The Comedy Bible is practical, inspirational, and fun

Answer #17
well, to do a stand-up comedy your body language matters the most
Answer #18
I suppose an important part is that when you talk when you are with a group (7 or 8) of friends do they always listen when you talk?
If you cannot hold their attention then you will struggle in front of a small crowd of say 50 to 60 people.
Depending on the content of the material either write it down or make a short video and share it.
If you have got good material the biggest obstacle will be confidence.
Answer #19
Bit Rate replied: well, to do a stand-up comedy your body language matters the most
I think delivery and content is more important.
I often go to a local comedy club called Jongleurs here in the UK, and I have seen some really funny people who have pretty awful body language.

I also think it has a lot to do with confidence to. Theres a fine balance between too much confidence and too little though. You have to go up on the stage like you own, yet be humble enough to connect with the audience.

If you have material, the thing to do is perform it for yourself in the mirror or a camera. get a sense of what you look like, think about where you are expecting laughs and leave space for people to respond. Practice til you know your material really well then get out to an open mike comdey night. They are all over. Writing stuff at home and performing it on stage are EXTREMELY different, but as I new stand-up myself i recommend you just get out there and do it. Don’t listen to people telling you you can’t do it, or not to try. The greatest comedians in history started somewhere. I wish you all the luck in the world.
Answer #25
Make sure you are good at quick fire repartie for hecklers. Even if a comedian is really funny they still get hecklers. Most even incorporate it into their act.
I often do teaching at work, sometimes with 40-50 people I have never met before, and I would be lying if I didn’t say I was anxious beforehand, even though I have been doing it for years – I would imagine it would be the same for comics if they hadn’t had a drink or popped some benzos.
