Hp compaq nc6000 hangs welcome

Got a old laptop , hp compaq nc6000 . it hangs on startup of windows .. when windows displays WELCOME it would beep once and remain stuck on WELCOME screen .
If ur lucky u repower the laptop and it boots up fine …
last night i booted it around 20 times and always got stuck on WELCOME screen .
this morning i booted it up and it booted fine .
in SAFE MODE it always boots up fine . ( works great in safe mode )
do u think its the HDD that is faulty ? i didnt change it yet , re installed XP and didnt help . on ebay u find loads of faulty nc6000 and 1 auction said ” This laptop suffers from the usual nc6000 design fault in that it only powers up and passes POST after pressure has been put on the keyboard area & shuts down again soon after – it need a connection re-soldering on the motherboard. ”
mine passes POST screen ( bios ) , it just hangs on welcome screen of windows .

I think the HDD is the problem. I had a similar problem on my desktop pc.
In my case the power conector to the hdd was not completly in and i was stuck on the welcome screen. lost all data but reinstalation helped in my case. But in your case it sounds like you need a new HDD.
