How to separate/edit/remove subtitle from a video?

August 6th, 2016

Couple of days ago I download Simpsons: The Movie. I played it with DivX Player and there wasn’t any subtitle, but then I played it with KMPlayer and a subtitle was loaded by itself. So I thought, if the subtitle is loaded on one program and not loaded on another – it means that the subtitle is not like a subtitle from a cinema-version movie, but a subtitle file fused with the movie file.
So, is there’s any way I can separate the subtitle, edit it (because it’s not that good) and put it back with the movie?
Thanks.

Do you mean the subtitle is ‘inside’ the movie? (hardsubbed)
Or is there a file by the movie?
Answer #2
Is there another file in the same map as the simpsons movie ?
And is it a .srt file if yes than you can open it with wordpad or some other text editor and just change it.
If no what files than ?
Answer #3
No, it’s inside the movie. It’s not a separate file. But the odd thing is that the subtitle doesn’t show when played on some programs, and it shows when played on another… btw the movie is mkv file.
EDIT: oh, and if you think that there is a subtitle file but it is hidden in the same folder (as it usually is), there isn’t.

Use Mkvmerge
http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/downloads.html
open the mkv file and untick the subtitle track and start muxing to a different file
btw if you don’t want to see subtitle while playing the mkv using Kmplayer use Alt+X to hide it
