How to copy from a (copy-protected?) .PDF file?

August 4th, 2016

Hi folks, I have a .pdf file that I can open without any problems (so it has no password protection).
When I try to copy text from that .pdf, however, I can select text but <CTRL/C>will not copy it to the clipboard. Any ideas how to solve this?
I have looked on the board, but can only find questions and programs to open a password protected .PDF file.
But that is not what I need.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Google…how to crack a copy protected pdf…
Quite a lot there including some online services..

Thanks for your reply, . But that does not work. And if it worked, I guess it would be quite cumbersome to copy and paste longer texts into Word that way.
Thanks for your reply also, . But I do not understand what you mean. This .PDF file is NOT password protected: because I can open it and read it just fine.
What I want to do is to select text from this .PDF, and then Copy&Paste that into a Word file.
The text can be selected, but when I then try to copy this selection with <CTRL/C>, the Clipboard stays empty. No matter how often I try ……. Do you mean with your answer that there is a password protection for this sort of thing in the .pdf, and that this password has to be broken in some way?
Thanks for your advice and looking forward to your reply.

Restricted is the word when you can’t copy, edit or print it, I figured out..
This might help.

Actually, your file may be password protected but you can still read it but not copy it without the password..

The standard security provided by PDF has two different passwords: user passwords and owner passwords. A PDF document may be protected by a password for opening (user password) and the document may also specify operations that should be restricted even when the document is decrypted: printing; copying text and graphics out of the document; modifying the document; and adding or modifying text notes (using owner password).
So your PDF file is password protected using OWNER PASSWORD. That is why you can’t copy text from the file!
The solution is to remove (decrypt) the PDF restrictions by using this application:

So, I did not know the correct term for this problem. This problem is not a ‘protection’, but a ‘restriction’. Thanks for all your answers, .
I will try this first because I have PDFCreator. Thanks, !
Thanks for your elaborate answer, . I just downloaded that (very nice and small) program. So I have good hope that with your help I can copy and paste from my .pdf manual now!
Thanks again!

‘calibre’ is the master of pdf and ebooks. You could have converted it to ‘txt’ in seconds. Or just copy and pasted from the original.
