How do I make Surround-Sound Games work with my DD-Receiver?

August 7th, 2016

I have
– Windows XP
– a Realtek OnBoard Soundcard which is connected via SPDIF to
– a DD Receiver
Every time I play a AC3-File(movie or audio) my Receiver detects it and switches to DD.
But:
A lot of games offer 5.1 but every time I switch that on nothing changes. My Receiver does not get any ac3-signal.
How to cure that?

Answer #1
Guys before I wait forever, where is a better forum for this?
Answer #2
No answer nothing. Guys you are slow. I don’t want your answer anymore.
Answer #3
Waiting an hour and a half is not forever… have some patience – or use Google.
You’re gonna have to use analogue connectors to your receiver for the game to have 5.1 audio, it doesn’t get passed through SPDIF/Optical for some reason – however, the reason it works for DVD’s etc is most soundcards can decode and stream DTS/DD through the SPDIF connection.
