Horizontal Bars on a 16:10 aspect ratio sony vaio cs laptop

please can someone kindly help me as i have searched all thru the internet for solutions but to no avail. i have a sony cs laptop 14 inch with an aspect ratio of 16:10. the problem is that my online videos as well as download videos have this annoying bars, although a friend managed to install a codec called cccp a and configured it so that the download videos show as widescreen video thus removing the horizontal bars but he wasnt able to make the online videos do thesame. please any one with any idea on how to totally make all video’s widescreen would be very appreciated, although some players make the videos widescreen

Well the thing is movies are NOT 16:10 nor 16:9. Cinema ratio is 2.41:1. If you stretch the video to remove the bars you’ll end up with disproportionate video.
