High-end computer – slow games after a short while

September 7th, 2018

Hello users..
i’ve got a pretty anoying problem.. my pretty-okay computer runs everything perfekt except in games.. AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ (3 GHz)
3 MB Ram
NVidia GeForce 9800 GT 1024MB (directX 9.0c)
I havent had problems before and could run every game on max settings, but lately i play with 60-90 fps in 4-5 mins as always and then it goes down to 7-8 fps… Just updated my Nvidia drivers.. didnt work… oh, and my core temperatures are still on the normal 45-53 degrees C (120 F)..
Think i mentioned it all… U have got an idea on solving my problem?

Answer #1
You have average computer, so I dont see why are you complaining about!
Answer #2
Well average. okay then… but i could play games like FEAR 2, GRID, SIMS 3, NFS Pro Street, GH3 on max settings perfecty some month ago… now i play them perfectly in 4-5 mins and then they rust run slow
Answer #3
Format your PC and install new and fresh OS
Answer #4
What’re the temps like on your GPU? Does it have enough power?
Answer #5
Thats what i ment with core-temp …. GPU is about 50 degrees C in games (120 F)
Answer #6
I’m fairly certain core-temp doesn’t do your GPU, only CPU. Use GPU-Z and see what the sensor on that says for the GPU temperature.
Answer #7
i know i know… sry.. i was a bit confused… GPU = 50 degrees
Answer #8
Is that under load? How is your CPU load? Is it low?
FPS dropping after a certain time period indicates a heat problem normally.
Answer #9
My GPU temp is 52 and everything is FINE

My GPU temp is 52 and everything is FINE If that’s under load, everything certainly isn’t fine. That’s far too cool.
Answer #11
i quess.. but example just being on IE the GPU is 48 degrees.. minimizing the game on low fps GPU=50-53 degrees.. so i dont think it is overheating
Answer #12
Ok so it idles at around 50C. When you play a game, what does the temp rise to? 50C idle is awfully hot.

Believe me or not, but thats cool for my GFX If I play games it goes up to 55 and no more ( MW2, BioShock etc… )! And I dont have any FAN on my GFX
Answer #14
just told u.. 50-53C playing my game.. both on high fps and low fps
Answer #15
If the core temps are the same whether it’s high or low then it sounds like you’re being throttled by the CPU.
Almighty.shO, you can’t have a particularly high spec card if that’s your max temp then or you’re under water.
Answer #16
Well if its the CPU then, how can i solve it… btw im using XP, any easy way to watch the CPU?
Answer #17
Task manager would show you. Just put it on the performance tab and widen task manager so it records the CPU usage for a bit longer.
Answer #18
OMG (banging my head down in the keyboard)… i knew that okay then… i will try to run a game and then check it out
Answer #19
Alright then.. playing the first 6-7 mins perfectly in GH3 the CPU is around 50-70%…. then when the starts to run very slow the CPU is on around 75-90%… sometimes hitting 100%
Answer #20
Interesting, that suggests that the CPU is overheating and throttling itself back to prevent it burning out or that another system process has popped up.
Answer #21
Sounds to me like your ram might be goosed more than any kind of heat problem.
Memory leaking etc. Run memtest

Answer #22
I would agree with jock, check your ram as well. it does sounds an awefull lot like hitting the ram limit & stating to use swap space as memory, though it seems a bit unlikely with 3GB ram.
also I’m pretty sure his cpu temp won’t be sky high if his gpu is that cool.
Answer #23
Sry for wasting your time.. seems like a little vacuum-cleaner around the dusty fans worked.. Odd cause there wasn’t that much dust but well… now i can play again
Answer #24
Hooray, I was right Glad to hear that it’s all sorted.
Answer #25
just a hint, but NEVER use a vacuum cleaner for cleaning a pc. it’s a static electricity nightmare & might just as well have fried your pc. it’s a lot better to use compressed air.
