Help with Sony Vaio VGC V3M

January 27th, 2020

Thanks for taking the time to look, any help would be much appreciated.
I have a Vaio VGC V3M which has had a pint of bitter and now although the computer starts and runs the display which is built in only works now and again.
There is nowhere to connect an external screen so that is a no no.
Does anyone know how to take one of these things apart, i’ve looked and puzzled over it for the last few days and it seems the only parts you can access without using any force are the ram dvd drive and HDD.
Just need to get inside the thing and see if it can be saved before making the big decision to send it to a better place Thank you

Liquid spills are not good, especially sticky pints of bitter!
I’m not too familiar with this model however, check the back and find the keyboard screws (usually marked) should be approx 3 of them and unscrew.
The keyboard should lift out by releasing 3 very small latches either at top or bottom of keyboard (inspect to make sure) You have to use slight pressure to lever up and out. use a slim plastic tool for this and take care not to use too much pressure. Underneath there will be a connector strip attached from keyboard to mobo, this is usually held in with a sliding connector so release and slide out.
Now release all screws on back at top of machine – this will enable you to lift the top plastic off be careful as these are prone to snapping, again use slight pressure prising up from one end to middle with flat plastic tool and make sure all top screws are out!
I’m guessing at this point what is underneath but usually audio speakers if so remove screws from speakers also check how this fits with the bottom plastic as some are rounded to fit with bottom plastic case so as not to snap (very fragile!)
After removing the hdd and memory check for remaining screws on the back of machine and any wireless cables(unplug).
Take out all remaining screws and seperate top plastic from bottom plastic once again apply slight pressure to release but again palm rest plastics are very fragile so take care.
You should now be inside the machine.
Note : Ground yourself with a wrist strap before you do anything and place a piece of foam or other protective matting underneath to stop scratching.
DO NOT use paper or lay any components on paper as paper holds an electrical charge!
Sure hope this helps.
Good luck.

Many thanks for your reply buddy, although most Vaio are laptops, this one isn’t. It’s a home theatre desktop, all in one jobby.
The only screws it has are at the back and they are only about 5mm long, and as far as I can see they only hold the chasis of the case in place, which can only be removed once the case has been opened.
There are no screws at all to remove that will let you open the case up and as far as I can see there are no clever little catches hidden to remove any of the casing except around the dvd drive and usb bezel.
