Headphone jack cracked. Can I use my Warranty?
October 8th, 2013
I have a Sony Vaio. Model VPCEH1AFX
Here is the Warranty
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/VAIO_Warranty_2-586-738-02-USA.pdf
It says
This Limited Warranty only covers product issues caused by defects in material or workmanship
during ordinary consumer use; it does not cover product issues caused by any other reason,
including but not limited to product issues due to commercial use, acts of God, misuse, limitations of
technology, or modification of or to any part of the SONY product.
I accidentally dropped it..Is this considered”Misuse”?

Oooooh, that’s a tough one. BUt since I am neither a lawyer nor a representative of Sony, I will defer this to the lawyers and Sony reps
is there a piece of headphone jack still inside the lappy’s jack or do the headphones still work ?
there is a cut out in the jack to mute the laptop speakers while headphones are plugged in
as to the warranty, I’d say misuse or “act of God” (this one makes you god) sounds about right
so don’t say you dropped it, just say you plugged the headphones in, be-bopped for a while, then unplugged the headphones and the laptop speakers didn’t come back on
if you do send it back and they discover what actually happened they will either charge you to fix it or charge you to ship it back to you
call your warranty site, there should be a phone # to report it and get a service rep, ask them as all warranties are kinda different, sony is pretty good, i would think yes they will repair it, but as i said make that call, if you don’t have the phone #, goto the sony web site look up warranty they will have a contact #, good luck
You can always try it on with Sony, and just say you were un plugging your headphones when it happened, so must be defective parts.
Shame you don’t have accidental damage warranty. Do you/parents have that on their household insurance policy ?
Accidentally or not, it WAS you who caused the damage so the warranty is useless to you unless you want to tell lies!
What Satusnsid says is true.
If you drop it, it’s not covered by the warranty. You can always try.
My headphone jack was busted too from my Ipod touch (i didn’t drop it, it just broke) and i got a new one in place. You can always try and ‘forget to mention’ you dropped it.
Sony’s are quite difficult to repair as well, they look good, but they are glued together in loads of places.
