HDD Backup

January 22nd, 2020

So my dad just brought a PC from work and said it doesn’t show anything on the screen, so I’m thinking motherboard, PSU, whatever, I’m not really trying to fix that as it’s prolly a long short, but he needs the data on the HDD so here’s what I did: Got my other computer, connected dad’s HDD with my computer, put up Knoppix (a linuxOS for those that don’t know) and tried to pull HDD’s data and send them to my USB, but to no avail, whenever I click on the HDD it shows an error which doesn’t really mean anything in particular.
So I’ve basically tried Knopix, DamnSmallLinux, removing the cables and stuff but nope..
EDIT:
So I just pulled Ububtu up and nope, same error is still there .

Basically, on dad’s computer I can’t get anything to show up on the screen even though I’ve tried removing and putting back in everything, his HDD on my computer takes me up until Windows 7 starts loading and restarts, Linux OSes don’t really help either, I’m sure the HDD is not corrupted or w.e as it was working fine, but either way… I just need the data. lol So my question is.. how do I go about backing up his data now? I prolly need like a OS utility that I can boot from USB and backup?
Thanks in advance.

The hard drive is either corrupt or damaged. You can’t be really sure that it’s not corrupted because the message hints so. You should boot with a Windows disk and launch chkdsk on the partition. Chkdsk is the utility from the creator of the filesystem and will perform a lot better than Linux utilities in this case…

Did the HD get detected in the bios..
Search the Apps section for a bootable Acronis Disk Director..It’s simple and easy to use..

Hey, yes BIOS detects the HD
And I guess I can’t use Acronis Disk Director since I need the data from the other HD and it won’t boot into that one..
Thanks once again.

In short,
If you burn Hiren’s boot CD you can then boot from windows XP which is installed on the CD.
then, using the apps installed such as chkdsk or others to fix or try to access the damaged hdd.
good luck
