Dvi-vga monitor adapter

So my graphics cardbgas only hdmi outpouts and dvi . I goty dvi to vga adaptor today but the monitor doesnt show the screen at all. I installed the monitor drivers via my tv. The adaptor may be broken ? If it’s not what can i try to do ?

Did you use HDMI to set it up on your TV?
have you pressed the input button to switch to DVI input?

I did use hdmi on the tv , hmmmm how can i do that i thought thay would be default ?

Some will, by default, select the right input.
However there should be a button with the rest on the monitor to switch input between HDMI/DVI manually. If not, it’ll be within the menu with a label like ‘source’ or ‘input’ (check the manual)

But the monitor isnt hd itself it doesnt have hdmi , and it has worked before i connected it to a laptop, nowmim talkimg about my pc… it has only dvi output i connected a dvi adapter and to that i connected my monitor’s cable .

it a CRT monitor ?
if you boot to safe mode do you get output to the monitor ?
it may be that you are trying to use and unsupported resolution ?

if it has any other type input (DVI ?) that’s what you want to use as digital (DVI or HDMI) is better than analog (VGA)

this is new enuf, it should have some type of digital input
get a HDMI to DVI adapter if it’s got DVI input

No you dont understand , my pc has only dvi on its graphics card , and my monitor’s cable is the plain old one with blue ends i think irs called vga , i bought an adapter from dvi to vga…

you need to boot or reboot after you connect the cable
if you boot to safe mode do you get output to the monitor with that cable ?

If its the Same as Mine… U have to use the tv controller to switch to VGA or HDMI input.
My bad… i thought U were talking about watching stuff on ya TV from PC

Well I can’t think of anything that you are doing wrong..
So you may have a faulty adapter or maybe something wrong in the video card that it won’t put out on VGA.
Double check that your monitor still works and that you have no bent pins in the plugs.

Monitor works just fine ,the dvi ports on the graphics card are good as well were checked before ,think it is the adapter’s fault ,already sent an email for a refound ,anyway thanks for all your help guys .

try plugging on the onboard vga port to your monitor
to check if the video card is busted.. or have you tried plugging it on other DVI port of the card?
what is your graphic card? may i know?

ATI radeon HD 5770 i think ,card works because the pc was connected via hmdi cable to a tv and it worked ,i guess just the adapter was crappy ,it had a crappy price so maybe that’s why ,anyways it has been sent for a refound .
